Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice and stories the good and the bad.
I've had one successful pregnancy and three MC in the last three years. I've had blighted Ovum, chemical and MMC. You name it I've had it and all started with slight bleeding.
I'm 5+3 today's but for the last three days I've had light bleeding on and off. I'd say it was heavy spotting, no where near filling a pad but still needing one. No cramps really, maybe odd twinges. It's mostly brown in colour, some "bits" but like grains not clots. EPAS won't see me, they say to just monitor and test again in a week. I tested today and still blazing positive. Is this start of a miscarriage again? Or implantation bleeding? It's just a little too much blood and gone on too long for me to not worry...

Anyone please? Going out of my mind thinking about this

I think brown is meant to be old blood. Bleeding doesn’t always mean miscarriage and it’s quite common. Ive had bleeding with all my pregnancies (2 miscarriages and 2 births)

if you’re still testing positive within the week, maybe try and push for a scan at the EPU. If they scanned you now I think it would be too early to see anything. Good luck

hi OP

Sorry to see you are experiencing this, early pregnancy is so stressful.

I'm currently pregnant with DC 3 and like you have had various MC before, all my MC started with brown spotting. With my two successful pregnancies I didn't bleed or spot at all.

However with this one I had brown watery discharge and tiny clots around 6 weeks. Had a private scan yesterday (9 weeks) and all ok.

Iv read so many stories online where women have bled and all has been ok but it's really 50/50.

The waiting is torture. I wish you all the best and hope it's a positive outcome

Sympathies OP, the worry is awful. I had bleeding with both pregnancies – one ended in miscarriage, the other is now a six year old. It’s impossible to know at this stage which is just maddening, I know. But bleeding doesn’t always mean miscarriage. Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for replying. Can I ask with the ones that ended in MC, did the bleeding stop or did it carry on and get heavier so it became obvious it was a MC? My bleeding has stopped again for now and I'm booked for a private scan on Friday.

For me, the first one (cant quite remember with the 2nd) I had just spotting which stopped. Went to EPU they confirmed very early pregnancy and said would rescan in 1 week… went back and wasn’t pregnant anymore. No more bleeding in the meantime and was only spotting, not heavy! It was very weird and unexpected as I always associated miscarriage with heavy bleeding. This all happened around 5/7 weeks I think

My first one I had brown spotting and stringy clots for about 5 days, went for a scan at epu and baby was there with heartbeat, but measuring smaller than I was supposed to be. Was reassured by midwife due to heartbeat. Spotting stopped for another week or so then started up again, went back to epu and heartbeat was gone. Baby had stopped growing around 6 weeks. Went home and MC that night.

Second time I had brown spotting around 7 weeks for a couple days then it stopped, private scan at 9 weeks, no heartbeat - baby stopped growing around 6 weeks.
Went home to MC but 2 weeks later body was still holding on to the pregnancy. Went for D&C and they messed it up, MC at home the following day.

Third I had brown clots and watery blood at 5 weeks, epu scan showed slow growth and no heartbeat, returned 2 weeks later, still no growth/heartbeat. Medical management at home.

So all 3 have ended around the 6/7 week mark for me.

I have had brown spotting this time around however so far so good at 9 weeks.

I've had bleeding with pregnancies before (and some miscarriages).

In one pregnancy, light bleeding went on for weeks, but all was fine. In another pregnancy, I had one very heavy bleed and that was fine too.

From my own (extensive) experience, I would say that while bleeding is worrying and upsetting it doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem. Increasingly heavy bleeding and pain are more worrying, though.

Hope you're ok. X
