Just back from hospital - test results after EPRC showed partial molar pregnancy. Tired, fed up and in need of good news stories. Please!

I only had to do one 12 hour sample, and they gave me one of those 4 pint milk cartons to do it in (they must have heard of my reputation as a prodigious wee-er), I had to lug it around with me in a rucksack, as we stayed with friends in London for a bit of my treatment(my ability to be embarrassed was non-existent by this time!). Didn't have any fancy crystals in though, so how foul is that!

All my other wee's (3 a week for about 2 years!) were in those teeny weeny 1/2 teaspoon sized glass testtubes.

BTW I'm liking the word "mimsy".

Habbibu · 13/06/2008 19:41

Ah - I see. No, most of my jug gets chucked down the loo, minus the precious sample that gets double-tubed and stuck in the post. I do think that the NHS has got this molar pregnancy monitoring pretty well sussed. Have heard nothing but good about the 3 centres (although what it's like if it's not on your doorstep I don't know).
Think Ikea would need the whole kit to properly corner the market - PisJoeg plus Sindij Funnel and Sjarbost sample tube.

Dundee don't do bloods routinely, hj, so I presume that's why they're all 12 hour tests. 3 a week - bloody hell. So glad I have (touch wood!) avoided that road so far.

OP posts:
hazeyjane · 13/06/2008 20:13

I had to do bloods and urine 3 x a week for the year in which I was on chemo, and then 3x urine and 1 blood for 6 months etc.

Charing Cross was fab at dealing with the follow up, but staying there was horrible(I caught a d&v bug, and had to stay on an isolation ward - don't know if Ikea would want to bring out a poo-sample range to complement their pisjoeg's!). Most of my treatment was done with my doctor's surgery and local hospital, and the second time I was supposed to stay, they let me stay with friend's and travel in daily(hence carrying a bottle of wee around London with me)

Hopefully Ikea's Pis-Sampel range would have been attractive enough to be a feature of our bathroom!

Brilliant, embarrassed to say your post bought tears to my eyes! (I'm an overemotional sort!) I just remember how fantastic it felt when levels were finally down.

Hope you do something lovely to celebrate (Dh and I ran away and got married!), and things go really well for you .

Habbibu · 19/06/2008 20:45

Gosh yes, there's nothing quite like trying to conceive while staying at one's parents or in-laws, is there? I am chuffed - just wrote all the monthly count-downs on my calendar.

Oh fab news , so delighted for you.
6 months will fly by...

Habbibu · 19/06/2008 20:47

Oh, bless you, hj! It's dd1's 3rd anniversary on Saturday - this time 3 years ago we were very sad and worried about going into hospital to deliver her, so it's a nice little gift to have the good news right now. I guess we'll celebrate and commemorate on Sat.

AnythingGoes · 29/08/2008 17:03

Hi there, I've just been diagnosed with one of these too. Boo! Bad enough miscarrying etc without being told no more trying for goodness knows how long. I've started being tested for HCG levels. Can I ask how quickly they come down? I've gone from 2003 to 1276 in 2 days. Does it usually continue in the same vein? Or am I building myself up for disappointment...

gnatbite · 29/08/2008 21:31

Hi AnythingGoes, sorry to hear you've had this diagnosis. It's hard to say how long it will take for the levels to fall, as everyone seems to be so different, although this is a really good start for you! Mine started to slow down as I got closer to the target of 5 - thankfully, I didn't have to have any further treatment, they just took longer than expected to drop naturally - sorry this isn't much help but rest assured that this is a good drop for your first test - I hope this continues for you.

gnatbite · 29/08/2008 21:34

ooh, I just thought - have you discovered molarpregnancy.co.uk yet? There is a forum on there which is a goldmine of information - I think there is a thread on there where people give their levels each week until zero - I found it really useful when I was still having bloods done (but I am the sort of person who gets obsessed with finding out information so it might or might not suit you!!)

AnythingGoes · 30/08/2008 12:16

Thanks gnatbite, I'll have a look there. I saw the website when they initially diagnosed it, but was so cross to read everything I saw there about how long it all takes that I dismissed it. However now I've come to terms with it better, I suspect as you say that it'll be very useful. I'll have a look now. Thanks!

Habbibu · 31/08/2008 20:07

Hello, Anythinggoes! So sorry you're going through this too - as you say, the miscarriage feels like enough to deal with. My levels fell very quickly - this is what I posted on the mp forum:
"I had an ERPC after missed mc on 3 April. Got histology results after 2 week holiday which diagnosed partial mole.

1st result was 5000, and next was 6000, so was called back in for u/s, which showed a regrowth. Had 2nd ERPC on 16 May.
21 May - U/S looked clear, blood 3300, urine 6600 - oddly!
29 May - urine only - 360
5 June - 77
Oh hurray! Down to 16 last week - Dundee have told me that if it's down again this week they'll count the 6 month follow-up as starting from last week! So this could all be over by Christmas...
Update - 0 the week later, thank goodness, so am almost 3 weeks into 6 month follow up."

And so in just over a week we're halfway through follow-up. Am trying to get a bit fitter, and am taking folic acid, cutting down on tea/coffee/alcohol, etc - as much to fill the time as anything else. Please do post if you want a whinge or just to chat about it - I've found this thread really useful and would love to share it.

hazeyjane · 31/08/2008 21:48

Hello Anythinggoes, I had a mp in 2003, and it did take a long time for my levels to come down, but they started off very high, it sounds like yours are coming down well.

It is a frustrating process, however long it takes, so try to look after yourself, and try not to be freaked out by some of the stories on the mp website!

Habbibu · 14/09/2008 09:57

Just a quick update - am halfway through follow-up now, and all going well (phew). Am getting twitchy about trying again - am tempted to start early, but knowing my luck would be the 1 in 5000 or whatever it is that gets a raise in levels within 6 months...
