Recurrent MC - Where to start?

Hi everyone

i had two MMC before my daughter was born (one was twins), plus a possible chemical. We delayed trying again as we knew we’d have to go through it again (which I now deeply regret as it feels like wasted time).

We started trying this summer and have just had another MMC. All of them were missed, treated surgically, and babies stopped developing between 8-10 weeks. With my daughter and with the latest pregnancy I took progesterone (I requested it, after reading about it on the Tommy’s website) and asprin.

I don’t know whether to try again or try to get some investigations done first. I seem to fall pregnant quickly when using ovulation sticks, but I’m about to turn 35 and conscious not to waste any more time.

I’m on the recurrent miscarriage nhs waiting list, but happy to go private to speed things up. But I don’t even know where to start - what tests do I need? I’m rhesus negative and my husband is rhesus positive, and I do wonder whether perhaps my daughter survived because she is also rhesus negative, but no way to know if this is the case.

I live in Cardiff - can anyone recommend any local clinics? Or perhaps in Bristol or somewhere else easy to travel to? A lot of the recommendations I’ve seen on here are for London.

Hi, sorry you are going through this, have you got any further with any answers?

I had a mc at 6 weeks in 2020 and a healthy daughter in 2021. Feb this year I had a mmc at 16 weeks resulting in hemorrhage and surgery (wasn't offered the anti d after) and now a mmc at 9w6d and surgery at 11 weeks (was given anti d). Struggling to get my head around this pregnancy not being impacted by not having anti d after the 16 wk mc. Have gone for private testing to be told there is still too much retained tissue and need another surgery to remove so still no answers.

Hope you get some answers soon if I get anything I will let you know so you know what to ask too.

Hello, I’m sorry to hear about all your losses.

I am in a similar boat, although we had decided to stop TTC after the second MMC in April this year. Part of me just wants to know why.

I have just started googling about what sort of tests are offered. It sounds like it is worth going private as time is precious, and the initial consultation with the clinician is what determines the next steps in terms of blood tests, scans etc.

I just don’t know if I want it enough to put myself through it, if that makes sense?

I have a healthy almost 11 year old and I’m 38.5. DH is 47. Two missed MMC one after the other at 6/7 weeks and 9 weeks, both surgical. It’s probably age that is our biggest issue.

We are up north, but I would be willing to travel especially if meant it was cheaper… no idea what these things cost. I’m a bit wary of fertility medicine in general as it can feel a touch exploitative but here I am.
