Positive test 3 weeks later

I had a misscarriage, having had a medical management misscarriage. I was told to take a test 3 weeks later. It was positive. What is the next step? I'm dreading at the thought of going back into the hospital but what will actually happen? Will it be a chat? Physical exam? Ultrasound? The only ultrasounds I've had is at 9 weeks to tell me I'd lose the baby and a week later to tell me I'd lose the baby so I really am dreading the tight of another Ultrasound

I’m sorry for your loss. It’s likely they’ll either get you in for a scan or ask you take another test in a week, as sometimes the pregnancy hormone can just take a while to come down, or they may do a blood test. Either way, as miserable as it is to go for another scan it’s best to have one to see what’s going on if you’re still getting positive tests.
Fingers crossed for you that the mm has worked, take care xx

It can take weeks after medical management to get a negative test. I’ve had 6 losses and I started to just opt for surgical management as it was such a rollercoaster and difficult with medical management.

I am so sorry for your loss. I would wait a week and do another test. If it’s still positive you may need to go and speak to them. They will worry that there is till something there which is isn’t good for you.
I am so sorry you are going through this. I know it’s horribly hard. 😪

Hello

Im sorry for your loss. I had this last month - I was asked if the test was fading in which case they’d ask me to retest in a week. But in my case it was still a strong positive so they got me in for another scan and found retained tissue.
As others have said though it can take a while for the test to go negative so hopefully all is ok.

Hi, sorry to hear this, it’s such a horrible period of time. I had a MMC last year at 8+5 measuring 7+5 and took misoprostol to pass the pregnancy tissue. It took me 6 full weeks to have a period. My tests did fade but it took about 5 weeks to get a negative and then another week to bleed.

@TTCFC91 sorry for your loss ❤️ same here…after 3 weeks still positive and they gave me another dose of misoprostol because there was a very small piece of retained product (gestational sac) I am due to test again next week but I tested 2 days ago amd was still positive…
have u gone for ur appointment? What did they tell u?

Rainbowchaser87 · 03/10/2024 22:48

@Summersun91 sorry for your loss ❤️ what did u do for the retained product? Xx

Summersun91 · 04/10/2024 06:56

@Rainbowchaser87 I had surgery again for the retained tissue. There was a 3 day wait from my scan until the surgery so I did actually ask to take the misoprostal in between but as expected no more bleeding, so I went ahead with the surgery.

TTCFC91 · 04/10/2024 23:08

I had my scan this morning and there was some tissue remaining. I took more tablets and will have to retest in 3 weeks. Hopefully that will be negative. If it's positive I have to have a D & C.

I've taken the second dose of tablets since yesterday and all I've filled is half a pad. Should I be expecting more blood? I really don't want to have e surgery but assumed there would be more blood!

Was the blood you passed clotty?

Summersun91 · 06/10/2024 07:27

@TTCFC91 yes I’d expect more. I’d wait a couple of days then phone EPU and they should get you in to scan you again so you don’t have to wait 3 weeks. I’m sorry this is happening for you

Rainbowchaser87 · 06/10/2024 08:34

@TTCFC91 was the same for me..very little blood and no pain…nurses said that’s what they would expect as it’s only some little retained product. Did they tell u the size of ur retained products?
The blood was not clotty for me…tested yesterday again and very very faint positive but not negative yet! Hopefully it will be next week x

TTCFC91 · 06/10/2024 10:35

Thanks that's reassuring to hear! It was 2x4. I've had no clots just a very little amount of blood

No blood wasn't clotty, I haven't passed any clots , just about half a pad of blood and this is 48 hours on. This is my second lot of tablets as the first lot left some tissue behind.

If you don't pass any clots, it may be worth following up sooner rather than later with your dr. I had to have two d&c's TWICE due to remaining tissue.
