No period 8 weeks after D&D

I Had a missed miscarriage and surgical removal on 19/07 and since I’ve not had my period back yet- meaning this is just over 8 weeks. Went to the GP last week as I was experiencing bad cramps in my lower stomach to be told not to worry this can be normal and come back in 4 weeks if there’s still no period. I have done lots of googling and worried myself sick about Asherman’s Syndrome which I’ve found can be quite hard to diagnose. Has anyone else experienced a delayed period after d&c and have any advice? Thanks

I'm wondering if I'm in a similar situation. I had an MVP for MMC on 23/7 and then had a bleed from 23/8 for a few days. It was so light I only used the occasional panty liner. I sort of assumed it was a period and my body wasn't yet back to normal so I put it in my Clue app as a period and carried on. My periods are usually heavy with clots and cramps though. Also interested to hear others experiences.

I appreciate that this may sound odd but is there any chance you could be PG again?
My period didn't return after 8 weeks and we had DTD once.
Shes 19 now!!!

Hi OP, sorry to hear of your loss. I’ve had 2 mc both needed surgery and after the first it took 9 weeks for my period to return, after my 2nd it took just under 4 weeks. If there’s any chance you could be pregnant again do a test to check but if not I wouldn’t wait another 4 weeks, I’d personally push for a scan to check the surgery removed everything.
All the best, take care x

Hello

Sorry to hear about your MMC.

I am worried about the same thing. I had surgical removal twice this summer (second time for retained tissue 4 weeks after the first), with the second surgery 2.5 weeks ago. The sonographer on the day said it looked like I had just ovulated yet I’ve had no period and just some cramps.

The doctor at my second surgery told me she’d found scarring which she had tried to remove (presumably from the first surgery, but could
be older), but I’m concerned as I have no period it hasn’t worked.

My plan is to take ovulation strips daily to see if I get a positive, then wait to see what happens 2 weeks later. Could be worth you doing the same then going back to the GP? You can also request blood tests on certain days to check if you are ovulating.

Thanks for replying. I’m definitely not pregnant as taken many tests the last few days. I was wishing that was the answer! X

How did you know you had retained tissue? Are you in the uk? I’ve read loads about Asherman’s and they have said it’s really hard to diagnose

@Elslaw12345 yes I’m in the UK.
I had a strong positive pregnancy test 3 weeks after the first surgery so had another scan at EPU which showed the retained tissue. However by the time I had the second surgery (1 week later) the test was almost negative.
I was “lucky” in that my second surgery was done under hysteroscopy (with a camera) so the scarring was seen that way, as it can’t be seen on ultrasound.

I know this is an old thread but did you get any answers? I’m experiencing the same, 8 weeks and 2 days and still no period, I definitely ovulated and had excruciating cramps but no bleed. I’ve been crying for hours worrying myself sick about ashermans. My GP doesn’t care and says to just keep waiting. Xx

Hi,
I’m in exactly the same position as you having ovulated and had bad cramps at both 4.5 weeks and 8.5 weeks post ERPOC MVA following miscarriage but no bleed. Did your cycle return or did you get any answers regarding what may be going on? x

GHH · 03/01/2025 14:40

I'm the same! I had MVA on 2nd December. I had major lower abdominal pain on 31st December (common to be more sore than your usual cramps after having MVA), I thought "great! My period is here!" The past few days I've had old blood/discharge; not fresh period blood. I did the usual googling, which I know I shouldn't, and it came up with Asherman's Syndrome... I don't know if this would be classed as a period or not, so I'm going to wait to see if my period comes before contacting doctors/EPAU. X

Butterfly8719 · 11/01/2025 18:36

Hi @JollyDreamer and @GHH so sorry I didn’t see your messages! How are you getting on? My period did come back after a hysteroscopy - it took 6 months after my D&C. Luckily it wasn’t ashermans but he did say he needed to dilate my cervix (not sure why) but that did the trick! Are you definitely ovulating? Xx

JollyDreamer · 15/01/2025 18:32

@Butterfly8719 @GHH My period finally came back after just under 9 weeks following my MVA. I had awful pains again but later in the day my bleeding started finally!

GHH · 16/01/2025 08:00

Hello :) I'm waiting to see if I get my period again, when it should come (tracking on Flo app). I've been getting very slight cramps now and then but wondering if that's because of MVA and maybe the pregnacare tablets that I'm taking. I would be at the end of my fertile window but not trying until after I see if my period. Xx

GHH · 31/01/2025 22:41

Hope you're all well 🥰 Just a little update: period came on time! Never been so happy to have one 😊

lili11 · 14/07/2025 09:29

Hi ladies!
I am in a similar situation . I had a miscarriage and surgical management six weeks ago. Still no signs of period. I have to admit that I am really worried about ashermans - the diagnostic process moves really slowly here in the UK and this whole waiting thing doesn't really help. I was wondering if you have any updates. I am just a bit confused of what I should do - probably a simple scan as a beginning ?

WildFinch · 14/07/2025 09:41

@lili11 sorry to hear about your loss. Are you testing negative now? My period came back naturally 3 months after my MVA. I think my body had a shock and it took a while for my hormones to settle I have a regular 30 days cycle and that came back too. I was 38/39 so perhaps that makes a difference being older.
If you're worried go to your GP and they can refer you for an ultrasound which will at least show whether your lining is thickened (mine was, and cystic). I panicked about Ashermans but my understanding is it's rare after MVA in particular, and especially as I'd only had the one procedure.

lili11 · 14/07/2025 15:45

@WildFinch thanks for your reply !!😊 It’s really reassuring. Testing negative now (although it took me some time to get a negative pregnancy test - almost 4weeks. I had a faint second line 3 weeks post the procedure). I spoke to a doctor from EPU and they told me to wait and call them back if I don’t get my period in 3mo time. I will probably book a scan privately just for peace of mind. I am really stressing out. I think I just wanted my period to come back for me to feel that this whole thing came to an end and we can move on. Thank you once again !
