I’ve had two scans which confirmed a missed miscarriage and I’m now waiting for surgery in 5 days, but started bleeding and cramping a week ago.

From what I’ve read and heard there’s usually an ‘event’ or moment where the pain and bleeding gets very intense for a few hours, but I’ve not had that yet. Does everyone have that?

I’ve had heavier and more painful moments, but managed those. I’m wondering, is it unusual to bleed this long without the worst bit happening? Could that mean it’s happened and I was fortunate it was manageable? Or it’s still to come? My MMC was confirmed at 11 weeks with growth stopped at 5-6 weeks.

I’m finding all the uncertainty quite difficult and draining.

Sorry you are going through this, but you can only get the answer from a scan. You could ask to be scanned before then to check? Or wait, as I presume they’d have to check on the day of surgery.

Mitzington, so very sorry you are going through this. I had an MMC last year, scan at 12 weeks, embryo measuring 6. I absolutely agree with SophieRules that a scan is really the only way to tell what is there and what isnt but it may well be that you have passed the embryo and sac. They are so absolutely tiny at this stage that you very likely would not see it, I think but i would also think you may have passed some clots with your bleeding if you have indeed passed the pregnancy.
Best to get a scan before the process and see where you are. If you have passed everything it will be good to check there is nothing remaining anyway.
Sending hugs. It is a horrible time x

A mc can happen without much pain, and can be drawn out, but definitely call the hospital to let them know, as they wouldn’t want to do the surgery unnecessarily.
I have my fingers crossed for you that it’s all over with so you can avoid the surgery, take care x

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I can only give you my experience, when I had my miscarriage I had bleeding for a week then I suddenly one afternoon I started getting cramps, like period pain which came in waves, like contractions, then it all of a sudden passed and the contraction like pain stopped abruptly. I guess because my body birthed the embryo so to speak. It was very quick for me when the cramps started but the bleeding was for a week which gradually became more and more. I agree with others that the only way to know if the embryo has passed would be to have a scan. Sending you big hugs, it's really awful thing to go through
