Advice on cycle after a negative test following miscarriage

I had a d and c procedure on the 16th August for a missed miscarriage (I was 13 weeks but baby passed at just over 7). I had my bloods taken on the 6th September and they are at 15 so hopefully coming to an end (I have repeat bloods a week after). I have had a lot of different answers from medical professionals around what happens next with my cycle so after some advice from people who have been through this as to what happened once they tested negative and what happened regarding ovulation and AF?

Hi there, so sorry to hear about your loss. I had the same thing with very similar timelines last Autumn. You can expect a delay in the return of your cycle. On average it is about six weeks but it does vary so please dont worry if it takes longer. You will very likely ovulate before your first period so keep in mind if you dont feel ready to try again.
Your cycles may or not be a little different in length, symptoms and even the flow itself just because the body adjusts to new experiences in different ways.

Feel free to ask if you want to know anything else x

I’m so sorry for your loss, it’s such a cruel time. I had a loss diagnosed at the 12 week scan in May - baby had passed at 8 weeks. I had medical management. I didn’t regret the decision but it did take a little while for HCG to drop. I was still getting positive tests 4 weeks after taking the tablets, then started bleeding a bit again so had another scan which confirmed a small amount of blood product remaining, which thankfully passed by itself.

I finally got a negative test a week later (so 5 weeks after tablets), tracked ovulation and am pretty sure I ovulated a few days after the negative test but we weren’t trying that month. I then had a period 2 weeks after ovulation, ovulated again 2 weeks later and have thankfully conceived 🙂 So that was first proper cycle post MMC, as in - with a proper period allowing me to date it. And that period was just under 2 months post MMC. Hope that makes sense! Currently feeling very grateful for that good luck but very anxious of course. GP referred me to the EPU so I’m thankfully under their care now.

All the best to you - take care of yourself, it’s such a challenging time.
