Confusing feelings after early scan

Sorry if this is the wrong topic to be writing under.

I went for a transvaginal scan over the weekend as I had red spotting, pain on the right side of my lower stomach, loose stools for 2 days and then tingles down my right leg. The scan showed baby at 6 weeks + 1 day (when going by my last period, I should be at least 7 if not more). It wasn't ectopic which was what I was beginning to worry about. The sonographer couldn't find a heartbeat and I think said baby was small (but I can't remember if she said an exact size, this may have been in relation to me thinking I was over 7 weeks). I got the feeling things were not looking positive. I then spoke with another nurse who did not seem concerned at all and said to come back (I have a 16 day wait for the next scan).

This is baby number 3 and I have felt from the start something was not right. I've had cramping which I know can be normal but I don't remember this with my other two. I have a gut feeling something is not right.

Has anyone experienced similar or can share more about what my scan could mean?

Thank you.

Hi OP sorry you’re going through this early pregnancy bleeding can be so incredibly worrying. Good news that it’s not ectopic💖 Do you track ovulation? If you should be 7 weeks based on your LMP, then it’s entirely possible your baby is measuring correctly by being 6+1. Counting from the day of last period is an old fashioned, inaccurate method that shouldn’t be relied upon anymore but for some reason medical staff like to assume everyone has a 28 day cycle which is most often not true
As for heartbeat, I can’t remember what point this is usually visible from but if your nurse wasn’t concerned then that’s a positive sign. It can be a long wait but hopefully your next scan will give more insight into what’s going on
All the best!

Thank you for getting back to me.

I have been tracking my periods for 6 months and know from doing so previously that I have a short cycle, about 23 days. Even using online calculators and saying it's a 28 day cycle would have put me at 7+1 on my scan day. A week difference seems a lot.

The sonographer was very quiet and the nurse I seen after I felt just blamed a mix up of dates but I know 100% about my periods.

It is such a long wait.
