Strong positive 1 week after surgery

Hello

I had surgery for a MMC one week ago (should have been 8 weeks, baby measuring 6 weeks). I’ve just taken a pregnancy test and it’s a very strong positive. Now I know that it can take a while for HCG to go down and get a negative test, but I was hoping by now if the surgery was successful it would have faded a bit.

Just to explain my history as to why it’s worrying me. I had a MMC 2 years ago and had 2 lots of medical management and an MVA and it took 8 weeks for the test to go negative due to retained tissue. So now I’m worried I have retained tissue again and will have to go through it all again.

I will test again in another week to check progress but I wondered if anybody else still had a strong positive 1 week post miscarriage and didn’t have retained tissue.

Many thanks

totally normal and likely to be positive for a few weeks yet

I had an MVA in July and had a strong positive a week after. They said if it was still positive after 3 weeks to call EPU. Luckily I got a negative about 2.5 weeks after the procedure. I know it must be worrying especially with your history but a week after isn't too unusual.

Totally understand your worry but definitely no need to be panicked at this early stage, you can have positive tests for weeks, I’d not test again for another couple of weeks, then when you do, if it’s still positive, give the hospital a call. Wishing you all the best x

Thanks all, I’ve started spotting as well which I don’t think is a good sign but will take another test after a week. @WildFinch thanks though you have given me a bit of hope!

Just to update in case it’s helpful for anybody reading in the future, had a scan this week and I do have retained tissue. Tablets failed so have to go through surgery again.

Hope you have healed and recovered now. Sorry you had to go through this. I'm almost 2 weeks after surgery with positive tests so thanks for the update. Take Care of yourself x
