Strange periods after miscarriage?

hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice please. I had surgical management for a missed miscarriage in early June. My period returned afterwards exactly 5 weeks to the day. Pre pregnancy, my cycles were like clockwork, always 28 days. In others experience, do cycles tend to stay the same after miscarriage?
my period was due to arrive yesterday, for a few days now I’ve felt very nauseous and exhausted. I was convinced I was pregnant again but my test this morning is negative. Feeling a bit down/alone, I’m away from my husband until next week. Generally feel fed up/ confused/annoyed at my body for getting my hopes up!!

Hi there OP, I’m really sorry for your loss. I’ve just posted something similar - I had surgery end of June and I can’t understand my periods since. It seems like I’ve had 2 but surely my cycle can’t be that short. I can’t offer any advice but just wanted to say I understand the upset, it feels like I don’t know my body right now. x

@wellwellwow thanks ever so much for getting back to me. I’m in a weird situation where I’m visiting my parents abroad, I don’t want to worry my mum about it and I just needed to see if anyone else out there could relate ! It’s so confusing. I feel like my body is teasing me, genuinely felt pregnant again. It’s such a rollercoaster isn’t it. Sorry for your loss too :( thanks again x

Yeah mine changed after MC, longer cycles and heavier. I spoke to GP who said it was common as any length pregnancy can affect your hormones. Tracking ovulation with tests helped me as was harder to predict it with irregular cycles. it took longer to get pregnant again than first time (but still only 5-6 months).

Hello

I’m sorry for your loss and I know the feeling when you just want things to go back to normal.

I bled for 4 weeks after my MVA (longer than normal I know), then the bleeding stopped and I got a negative test. I had one week with no bleeding then I bled again for 7 days. I took this to be a “period” but I was using ovulation strips and I knew I hadn’t ovulated. 14 days later I ovulated then 14 days later next period arrived.

Oddly my periods were more regular post miscarriage (28 days exactly, previously 27-31).

Not quite the same as you, but possible you didn’t ovulate for one of these “periods”. I think it’s normal for things to be a bit off, and could be helpful to track ovulation if you want to try again. It’s also normal for your periods to change cycle length or in heaviness.

Thanks for messaging @Peonies12 I’ll definitely use ovulation sticks for next time. It’s all so frustrating, I think I was overly optimistic thinking things would return to normal so quickly. X

@Natpat81 thanks for sharing. Yes frustrating waiting, I think what I’m finding hard is how long everything takes. Pregnant March, MMC June, now we’re already in August!! Hard when close friends are announcing pregnancies too, it’s all going on. Thank you again, it’s comforting hearing others stories x
