2 miscarriages

Hello,

me and my partner fell pregnant in January. Unfortunately the pregnancy ended at 7 weeks. I tried to pass naturally but ended up needing medical management. Despite this I retained pregnancy tissue for 7 weeks which was confirmed on a scan. After this they didn’t scan me again and just monitored my HCG levels. Once they were below 5 I was discharged. 2 months later I was pregnant again, confirmation on a digital pregnancy test but lost this within a few days.

I have referred myself privately for testing and was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar ? Any success stories ? Thank you

@PerkyRedPanda sorry that you've been through this. Just wanted to say that I'm in a similar position - 2 MMCs within 8 months, one at 6 weeks last year and one at 8 weeks last week. With my first one I also had retained tissue after natural miscarriage which I had surgery for. It's so much harder not being able to move on quickly. I've been considering private testing too as I think I'd rather know if there was something wrong rather than walk into a 3rd miscarriage. I've been advised against it by the consultants I've seen in the NHS as they just said to keep trying and it will happen. I think if you can afford it then makes sense to get tested. Hope you're doing ok.

Thank you for your response. I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve had to experience this. I have had four GPs say the same thing to me as apparently it is very common. Some of them have also experienced two miscarriages and advised to keep trying. Tough though isn’t it. I have moments of excitement thinking of the possibility then it quickly turns to horrific anxiety and fear.

Hi OP.
My first two pregnancies ended in miscarriage, but the third time, our DD was born.

It's not uncommon for women to have two losses.
I actually had eleven miscarriages, but four live babies, eventually.

I really hope you have a successful pregnancy next time.

@PerkyRedPanda so sorry you have been through this. Hopefully it is just bad luck - I think two consecutive miscarriages are more common than we are led to believe. I had a successful pregnancy followed by two miscarriages and then a successful pregnancy. Really hope you are third time lucky xx

Figtree11 · 21/06/2024 12:52

I’m sorry for your losses @PerkyRedPanda I too have had 2 consecutive miscarriages. One no known cause, and the other a partial molar. I’m going to try again, but in the meantime I have been referred to a tommys miscarriage clinic in November.

Its great to hear of others on this thread who have had 2 then gone on to have healthy pregnancy

@TheShellBeach thank you for your post. Did you do anything differently with your viable pregnancies ? X

No, I didn't.

My obstetrician told me that it was just chance, and that as I'd had some successful pregnancies among the miscarriages, it was unlikely to be a cause which could be corrected.

No success yet but wanted to post to say I know how you feel. 1st mc was last July at 7 weeks, horrid experience with retained products, finally resolved in December (ridiculous!). Fell pregnant again but mc at the start of this month at 9 weeks (on holiday of all places) and now contending with small amount of retained products. Life really can be so cruel. I’m hopeful it will be 3rd time lucky when we feel ready to try again. Aware NHS won’t do a lot at this point but I intend to ask GP for full blood count as a starting point at the very least. I hope we both get our success stories in the near future x

@OneDayHope sorry to hear that you've been through it again. Must be horrible going through it on holiday too and I know how awful retained products is in terms of making it hard to move on. I hope your GP is supportive.

Thank you, my current state of mind is just get the retained products sorted then book another holiday asap, a holiday that consists of wine this time too!!
I hope you get support and answers if you decide to go for testing, and that one day in the near future you get your rainbow baby x

@OneDayHope totally! Definitely need to make the most of life, whatever situation we find ourselves in. Thank you, I hope the same for you too! x

Hi, hope you are all ok. I had an MMC in the Autumn and then a chemical last month. Hoping it’s just bad luck but now trying again, expecting AF any day and with my two lost pregnancies I had a lot of symptoms before even 4 weeks so I think, as I have none, I am probably out this month. It is just horrible isn’t it. I feel like I am waiting for the third to go wrong just so I can get the referral. Just wish I could be a bit more positive!

Sorry to hear you’ve also been through losses, hope you’re doing ok. I think all we can do is hope the first two losses are bad luck but that we’ll have luck on our side with the third, being positive is however very difficult! I’m currently waiting for a scan which will hopefully confirm all the ‘retained products’ are out so I can move on from the second mc.
I wish you luck for the future x

Yes, you are right and we have to hope it’s all just bad luck. I am wondering if my issue is my immune system, for many reasons.
Hope your scan goes well. So much waiting. It really is awful mentally.
