Hi everyone. I had a scan one week ago and I was informed there was no evidence of a fetal pole and diagnosis of a missed miscarriage was given. I was sent away to think about my options.
however on return today to potentially get medication management I asked for a scan for reassurance before taking anything. The scan revealed an embryo which was not seen on the previous scan measuring approx 6 weeks but no heart activity. My dates according to last period would suggest I am 10 weeks but I have an irregular period and believe I ovulated two weeks after this date leaving me at approx 8 weeks. Now they have told me I shouldn’t take the pills and need to wait it out a further week and I’m traumatised by the continuation of not knowing. Has anyone been through a similar experience and had a positive outcome?
ive had no symptoms of miscarriage to date.

NB, so sorry you are going through this experience. It is unfortunately NHS protocol to double check if they see an embryo without heart activity because they are so tiny at this stage that they just want to double check viability of the pregnancy.

There is always the possibility that you ovulated later than you thought and I believe that heart activity generally starts between 5 and six weeks so there is a possibility that things may turn out well and they may see a heartbeat next week. I dont know what the likelihood of this is though and if you are pretty sure you are around 8 weeks then 2 weeks difference in embryo size is quite a bit. I think you can only hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

I have had a missed miscarriage myself so I know how up distressing it is, as do a lot of other ladies on here. However things go, there is huge support on here so I'm wishing you good luck and sending virtual hugs.
