Strong positive 5 weeks after miscarriage?

Hi,

I wanted to see if anyone a a similar experience and what the outcome was. I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. The miscarriage was straightforward, cramping bleeding and passed tissue etc which was done in about 5 days. I then felt fairly normal for 2 weeks, but the 3rd week after started to get pregnancy like symptoms- fatigue, dizziness, nausea and the same food aversions I had in my first pregnancy. It's been over 5 weeks since the miscarriage and I'm still getting a very strong positive.

I'm 99.9% sure I'm not pregnant as passed quite a bit of tissue, intuitively don't feel pregnant despite the symptoms and my stomach is completely flat. There is no chance of a subsequent pregnancy as I've not had sex.

I rang my GP today and she advised getting a scan as soon as possible (I never had one during/after the miscarriage) and said while it's normally not to get your period for 4-8 weeks it wasn't normal to still have a positive this long after the miscarriage, especially as I was so early on in the pregnancy. I have an appointment first thing tomorrow for a scan. I'm kicking myself now for not requesting a scan sooner I just thought it was normal to still test positive for some time after.

So my question is has anyone been in a similar situation and what ended up happening? I guess the obvious thing is that there is some retained tissue I'm just very surprised after what felt like a complete miscarriage, plus the fact I was so early on. Thanks in advance.
