Anyone else's phase ruined post-MMC?

Hello,

I had a chemical in January, fell pregnant straight away but lost the last baby in March at 10 weeks to a MMC. I had a D&C and then proceeded to still test positive for the next 7 weeks. My period returned in the 7th week.

I decided to use the first period to track and my sure my cycle was back to normal. All was going well, I ovulated on CD15 and settled into the TWW only to have AF turn up only 4 days later. I have never, ever in my life of periods had a short luteal phase. I am so shocked and upset. My last period was only 20 days before the spotting started. A Luteal phase of 4 days just isn't normal for me and I've no idea how I can get back to my usual cycle. We are desperate to try again and can't while it's like this.

Has anyone else had this happen? Did you have a very short luteal phase after a loss? Did it return to normal and, if it did, how long did it take? If it didn't, how did you cope or improve it? I'm now 9 weeks post MMC and the waiting to go back to normal is killing me. It's all I can think about. I was so, so happy when I ovulated and finally felt my shoulders relax after nearly 10 weeks of waiting uncertainty :(. I'm nearly 36 and TTC baby#1 so feeling the pressure.

I did have some very short cycles trying to conceive DD2 and after 2 MMC - I’ve never used tests to track ovulation but at one point my cycles were routinely around 20 days, I wasn’t sure whether I was ovulating early or having short luteal phase.

I'm not sure how long that lasted, the first one I had the D&C in November, conceived again in February, so that wasn’t a long enough gap to measure cycles, second D&C was in May and I conceived again in the October, so that must have been the gap when I noted the short cycles.

I admit it worried me at the time! But DD2 was born healthily after all that. I was 41 when she was born, so it might have been an age thing.

After she was born it took years for my cycles to settle back down, they’d be anywhere from 20 to 35 days (they’re just about settled at 24 now - although I think I’m perimenopause now anyway).

I might have had one or two short luteal phase(s) in the previous cycles. I had two MCs.

Past cycles before my 1st MC: 28 - 35 days, I used to ovulate on CD14

Cycle 0: 15/12/23 - 20/1/24: I don't know when I ovulated because I was so busy and stressed therefore I wasn't tracking my LH. Looking at my BBT chart for this cycle, there was a BBT rise apart from CD11 then it immediately dropped below my baseline. Then there was a BBT rise on CD 28 then I had my period. 35 day.
Maybe a short luteal phase? 6 days?

Cycle 1: 21/1/24 - 2/3/24: I ovulated on CD14, and had a MC on 2/3/24. 42 days

Cycle 2: 3/3/24 - 2/4/24: I didn't BD and I ovulated on CD21. 31 days
11 day luteal phase

Cycle 3: 3/4/24 -6/5/24: I ovulated on CD17 then CP happened on 7/5/24. 34 days

Cycle 4: the current cycle - Because of CP, the LH and the BBT are all over the place. Got a peak today. My app predicts that I will get AF on 6/6/24.

Hope my data will provide you some insights at least.

Thank you so much @ditzzy and @LucyCL, I really appreciate you both taking the time to answer.

It's good to know this may just be the hormone fall out still going on. I guess only time will tell whether there is anything wrong here, but time doesn't feel like it's on our side this far in this journey. It's all such a mess.

I really hope my next period is normal and doesn't start happening every 18 days :/.
