How long for cycle to return after MC?

I had a MMC which resulted in emergency surgical evacuation in April. I'm wondering for anyone else who has had a loss, how long till you ovulated / had a period again? It's been nearly 5 weeks for me now so I'm hoping things return to normal soon xx

I'm so sorry for your loss. Have you had a negative pregnancy test since surgical management? I've had this twice, and both times it took 5-6 weeks for my period to come back x

Thank you @moosey89 and I'm so sorry for your losses as well. It was like living my worst nightmare. It was a twin pregnancy which I've found very difficult to process. I was told to test after 3 weeks and still had a line - not very strong but not a squinter either. I had wondered if I was ovulating a few days before that due to ewcm for a few days but the EPU nurse thought it was unlikely if I still had a faint line. I re-tested after 4 weeks and it was negative. If I did ovulate then, my period would be due around this weekend so I'm waiting to see. However I don't have any of the usual cramps or other pms symptoms so don't know what's going on! Was your first period just like a normal one when it came? Xx

Sorry for your loss. I got my period about 5 weeks after my MC (happened naturally), I didn't track ovulation during that cycle though. my first period afterwards was definitely heavier, and more painful, as were my next couple. We waited a couple of cycles before trying again as really needed some space, then fortunately conceived again with 4 months of trying. Weirdly I had quite irregular cycles before MC, and they got more regular afterwards

So sorry for your loss. My period came 5/6 weeks after my MC but not sure if it was quite a normal period that month, after that back to normal.
Conceived again within 4 months of the MC

moosey89 · 23/05/2024 14:58

@CosmicLove I found the physical recovery easy but emotionally I don't think you ever fully recover. I hope you can find peace though.

My first period back was actually pretty light - I'm not sure if this is because the surgical management effectively clears everything but I didn't have much cramping and it lasted around 3 days. I tracked right away and I didn't actually ovulate after my miscarriage until my period came back, then from the next cycle it was almost back to my normal 28 day cycles straight away. I did have some acupuncture so not sure if this helped that or not. I'm still trying to decide if I want acupuncture again this time xx

@Peonies12 @maw1681 thank you and very encouraging to hear you both conceived again within 4 months. DH and I are keen to try again very soon, although definitely waiting one cycle to make sure everything is okay and reduce any risk of infection etc.

@moosey89 you're right - the physical toll is hard but it's nothing compared to the emotional toll. Going through something like this just changes you, if that makes sense. I never thought it would happen to me but it can happen to anyone. It's so random - I was doing all the right things.

Since posting this I've been having some cramps which feel like AF cramps - although might just be my imagination! Let's see if she arrives at the weekend as predicted.

Thank you ladies ❤️

Hi @CosmicLove going through something similar. Had an MVA on Monday after a MMC with twins at 7+2 but they were measuring around a week behind. If you don’t mind me asking, how far gone were you - already conscious about when the tests will go negative and my period will come. Thanks and sorry for your loss x

CosmicLove · 24/05/2024 21:48

@Herewegoagain0 I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️ I went for a private scan at 7+5, just for reassurance really, but unfortunately I was measuring only 6 weeks. I called EPU and they managed to offer me a scan for the next day. The results were the same but because I was only measuring 6 weeks with no heartbeat, they couldn't say definitively that the pregnancy had ended, as you would expect not to have a heartbeat at 6 weeks and maybe my dates were out etc. So all they could do was send me away with another scan booked for 2 weeks time. However sadly I never made it and after 11 days I started bleeding. It became so heavy that I had to go to hospital and after losing around 2 litres of blood, I had to have a surgical evacuation under general anaesthetic, and a blood transfusion. It's was such a terrible ordeal. In a way I am glad I had the private scan as if I hadn't, I would have just been going along thinking everything was fine and would've had such a shock when I started bleeding. At least that way, I had some time to prepare myself for that possibility xx

Very sorry for your loss OP. It was 6 weeks for me.

CosmicLove · 24/05/2024 21:49

@Herewegoagain0 my test was still positive after 3 weeks and the nurse thought that was likely because it was a twin pregnancy so might be the same for you xx

@Chanel05 so sorry for your loss ❤️ 6 weeks for me too, when they stopped growing. Nearly 10 when I actually started to lose them. It's such a horrible thing isn't it.

Sending love to all xx

It’ll be 7 weeks on Friday for me since medical management and passing pregnancy. Negative test took 3 and a half weeks. Still no period but having cramps as we speak so prob any day now - think it’s taken a while for the hormones to come down.
i started spotting on the 31st March, scan confirmed loss on 9th April so this has reallyyyy dragged on x

Rosedom · 29/05/2024 11:05

I had a surgical management after my first MMC and my period came back exactly 4 weeks to the day. However I would say that if you still had a pregnancy test come back positive after 3 weeks then your HCG levels must have been high (enough to get a positive) so perhaps your period will take a little longer to return. My periods were generally heavier after the surgery but not sure if that was surgery or pregnancy or hormone related! It can feel like such a long process to get some form of normality back, take care of yourself x

CSSL7 · 29/05/2024 15:25

I was sixteen weeks - took three weeks to stop bleeding and three weeks and one day to get a completely negative test. Xxx

Frostfable · 31/05/2024 14:17

After my first MC which was natural it was exactly 6 weeks until I got my period. I got pregnant again the second cycle since MC which ended in
My second MC and with meds 7 weeks after I got my period.

Both times I tested positive up until the point I had my period, like an horrific joke!
