Partial molar pregnancy

Found out at my scan on Monday baby has no heartbeat and it is a partial molar pregnancy so they booked me for surgical management yesterday morning and now have to have my hcg monitored on a weekly/fortnight basis till it drops to below 5 (currently 160000 even though I'm meant to be 8 weeks and baby stopped growing at 6 weeks) as it can turn cancerous. Has anyone had this before and shed some light into what I'm in for.

@Noideawhatshappening im doing ok thank you. I had my blood test on Friday so that’s posted off now. So I presume by end of the week I should hear back. Still no sign of my period which is bothering me a bit.
How are you doing? How are your levels doing so far?
I’ve also found Sheffield have been great. I also went back to the EPU I’ve been under to get my blood test and they were all so lovely. Had an overwhelming urge to cry when there as it doesn’t hold very good memories! But it helps when they are so nice

@McConkeysPlate i really hope the process is as smooth as it can be for you

Good news on reaching the blood test milestone! Hopefully you'll be clear and done with all this very soon.

I'm actually bleeding again - only 16 days since my last "period". I'm usually a solid 30 day-er so not too sure what's happening although I expect my body might be a little confused/messed up for a while.

My levels are now at 2.5 so officially in the 4 week window ahead of my blood test on 29th.

Oh, yes that must be difficult. IME, all the staff are so kind at the EPAU too which can make it that much harder not to get upset. Hopefully you'll get the go ahead for trying again soon.

@Noideawhatshappening thank you, hoping so much it comes back clear.
Thats great, I hope that it comes back clear when you have the blood test!
Sorry it’s so confusing with the bleeding - it’s so frustrating when our bodies are out of whack. As if we’ve not had enough to deal with. I’ll be coming up to 10 weeks with no bleeding at all!

Hi everyone.
I've just been diagnosed today with a molar pregnancy, I am about 9 weeks pregnant, and have been bleeding lumpy clots for the last 3 weeks now, had several scans but was monitored as a gestational sac developed a yolk sac so have had a really tough few weeks of waiting around, even though we knew it wasn't right (large area of bleeding in the uterus)
I was in the EPU for about 3 hours this morning waiting around for scans and to talk to doctors and am booked in for surgery tomorrow and sent away with a booklet, told I may need to stay in hospital and may need a blood transfusion if I bleed a lot during the surgery.

I am 37 and have been ttc for about 3 years now, I became pregnant for the first time in January but had a MMC and surgical management in march.

I'm a bit worried as this seems a lot more serious this time, and obviously I'm also worried that dealing with all of this is going to take the rest of the time I might have had left to try and conceive a child :(

I don't really have any questions but just wanted to say hi, and I'll read back through all of these posts and I hope everyone is okay.

@californiacooper i am so sorry you find yourself here. I recognise your username from a thread I’ve been on before I think, so I’m really sorry you are going through this.
Mine too is my second loss so I understand how difficult it is. This one for me was a partial molar, but sounds like yours is complete? But if you have any questions or just need a vent feel free to message on here.
Hope surgery goes as well as can be today x

McConkeysPlate · 11/07/2024 16:23

I am so sorry you are going through this. After my D&C it took about 4 weeks for confirmation of a complete molar and referral to Charing Cross. Then another week or so to receive my first pack of vials and information from them. I hope it’s a little quicker for you and wish you the best for tomorrow. I think there are a few of us around at most times for a chat x

I had another miscarriage with surgery at the start of march :( I'm sorry to see you here too.
I don't know the difference between a complete and a partial, how do you know mine sounds like a complete? I think a complete is worse isn't it??
I went back for a blood test yesterday, but no results yet. What happens now? Do I just wait for the hospital to contact me with what to do next.
I'm so upset that this has happened and I may not have time to deal with it and also manage to conceive again.
Hope you're doing okay xx

Figtree11 · 14/07/2024 11:26

@californiacooper a complete is where a baby hasn’t formed, and so on a scan a baby isn’t visible. A partial a baby starts to form but there is molar tissue on the placenta. I had a scan & saw a baby with a heartbeat. Then at 12wk scan the heartbeat had stopped. I only found out a month later when the hospital called after testing as scan looked normal.
The hospital should send it off for testing & then should confirm. In my case it took 4 weeks to get the results. Then the hospital referred me to a specialist centre in Sheffield. Depending where in the country you are you could be referred to Charing Cross or somewhere in Scotland. They then get in touch a week later to take you through it all. In my case with Sheffield I have to send off urine tests every 2 weeks until clear. Then a blood test 4 weeks after before being discharged.
I’m sorry you’ve not had much more info shared with you, once you get referred to the specialist place they are so helpful and they can answer as many questions as you have. It really is a horrible time with the uncertainty xx

Noideawhatshappening · 14/07/2024 18:55

@californiacooper sorry you're also going through this.

If it helps, I had a complete molar. I had a scan at 11 weeks and they couldn't see a baby in my womb, just a lot of tissue. I also had some pelvic pain. The HCG levels in my blood were high (over 250k) and continued to climb despite there not being a baby. I had the surgical procedure and thankfully, my bloods have dropped massively. I had the op in May.

I've been monitored fortnightly by Sheffield, with blood and urine tests that they send out in the post. The nurse rings with results a few days after posting.

If it carries on the way it is, I'm likely to be discharged sometime in August. If it rises again, they'll intervene and keep monitoring me until Nov then discharge me then.

Good luck, I hope the hospital are in touch quickly for you.

McConkeysPlate · 15/07/2024 19:44

I hope everyone is doing ok?
I had my first bloods back from Charing Cross today and they are almost 4000. Gutted as 3 weeks ago they were 800 😭

Figtree11 · 15/07/2024 20:08

I’m sorry @McConkeysPlate that must have been difficult news to hear. Were the bloods that were at 800 also with Charing Cross? Have they said what happens now, will they need retesting again soon or in 2 weeks?

I am doing ok thanks. I had what was supposed to be my final test before being discharged but it wasn’t quite the level they wanted it to be at, so re-testing on Friday. I’m nearing 11 weeks since d&c and had cramps & spotting today so I think my period may finally be on the way

McConkeysPlate · 17/07/2024 09:25

@Figtree11 i hope your next bloods gives you the result you need to be discharged. It’s a long time x
i have more bloods being taken on Monday so hopefully they will be super low!

Figtree11 · 22/07/2024 13:44

@McConkeysPlate thank you, I am expecting my blood test result tomorrow or Wednesday.
I hope your results come back lower this week

McConkeysPlate · 23/07/2024 17:45

@Figtree11 did you get your results? X

Figtree11 · 23/07/2024 21:33

@McConkeysPlate no not yet, I’m hoping they will call tomorrow!
Have you had your results?

YouPutTheScrewInTheTuna · 23/07/2024 21:50

Hi all, just wanted to say thoughts are with you all. I had a partial molar about 2 and a half years ago, such a difficult time with all the unknows.
I had a 3 month delay between D&C and being told about it being a molar and so was actually pregnant again (although I didn't know at the time) with identical twins!
The HCG level monitoring didn't go to plan as you could imagine but I was discharged from CC once they knew I was pregnant again.
The twins are now happy, healthy 22 month olds, hope you all are OK and go on to have healthy pregnancies.

Figtree11 · 23/07/2024 22:33

@YouPutTheScrewInTheTuna this is so lovely to read, thank you for sharing. So amazing you have twins. I feel very still in the depths of it all at the minute & can’t imagine getting to take home a baby. So hearing positive stories is really helpful

McConkeysPlate · 24/07/2024 08:35

@Figtree11 i had them taken Monday so I guess I will email them on Friday. I am struggling to keep my mind busy but the kids break up today so that should help! Sending you love x

Figtree11 · 24/07/2024 08:37

@McConkeysPlate its so hard to keep distracted. I had my phone glued to my side yesterday waiting on a call. And just have a general anxiety sick feeling today!
Let me know how you get on when you hear back x

McConkeysPlate · 24/07/2024 08:49

My sickness is back over the last few days and pregnancy test is a dye stealer. It’s horrible 🤮. Update me too x

Figtree11 · 24/07/2024 12:51

@McConkeysPlate im sorry you aren’t feeling great.
I have heard back from Sheffield - my final test results are normal so I have been discharged!

Congratulations @Figtree11 what a relief!

Did you get any advice on trying again? Just trying to work out timelines while I'm impatiently waiting for my test ...

Figtree11 · 24/07/2024 20:04

@Noideawhatshappening thank you, I was so nervous answering the phone but glad this horrible chapter is now done.
They said I am free to conceive again, and I asked about what happens if I do get pregnant, and they said I need to arrange a scan at the EPU at 7 weeks, then just the usual 12wk scan after that.
But as mine was partial, a scan I had at 8 weeks before was totally fine, so I imagine it will be a stressful time waiting longer to see if it’s happened again.
How are you getting on?

McConkeysPlate · 24/07/2024 23:15

@Figtree11 This is the best news. I am so happy for you xxxxxx

That sounds like great news but can totally understand your nerves. Sheffield said to me the stats aren't massively high for the chance of a second molar, especially for partial though. Easier to recognise logically than emotionally though isn't it?

I'm due to do the blood test next week then just waiting for the results. Hopefully they won't take too long

@McConkeysPlate hope your test results came back lower
