Miscarriage over 5 weeks ago still bleeding and testing positive

I thought I would come on here and see if anyone has had a similar experience as me as I am at a bit of a dead end with answers.
Just over 5 weeks ago on Friday 8th March I had a miscarriage I was 4 weeks and 1 day so very early.
I contacted the EPU and was advised to let nature take its course at home, I bled for 10 days then the bleeding stopped, I assumed I was back to normal although I was still testing positive on a pregnancy test but knew this could take time.
Me and my husband wanted to keep trying for a baby so we had sex once the bleeding had stopped, in the meantime I contacted the EPU to tell them I was still testing positive after 2 and a half weeks, they told me to come in for bloods and it was at 26 so very low and advised no point coming back.
3 days after that I was still testing positive and I started to get light brown spotting with stringy bits and that lasted for 13 days. But i contacted the EPU again had another blood test and it showed 24 so it only went down by 2 in the space of 5 days so they invited me in for a scan.
The scan showed a cyst and excess fluid but they told me nothing to worry about it just means you have ovulated and it is very common and no remaining tissue could be seen.
They took my blood again and it had gone up to 25 which was odd, so they asked me to come back in 2 days for another blood and it went up again only by 1 to 26.
A mention of a new pregnancy but if it was it wouldnt have been good news anyway as it was only going up by 1 so they told me to wait a week and come back.
5 days passed with still getting the light brown spotting I then started getting heavy bleeding and bad period pains so I assumed my period had started. I took a test and it was the lightest positive id seen so I rang the EPU they told me come in for bloods and it was now 23 so they was still a bit baffled as it had only gone down by a small amount and asked me back again in 2 days time.
I went back on Friday and they couldnt get my blood they tried 7 times and couldnt get anything and by this point I had had enough told them I think its all over now as I think im on my period and my tests were getting light so they sent me home and invited me back in a weeks time if I am still testing positive.
Its been 3 days and in that time the bleeding had stopped so me and my husband had sex again and since then for 2 days im bleeding heavy again and still testing positive so now im thinking was the bleeding even a period and is there actually something wrong.
Sorry this is a long one but I wondered if anyone has had any similar experiences and if so what was your outcome

Hi lovely, I bled for 8 weeks following my MMC in February and a scan showed fluid like yours did. Turns out this was retained products and I just had surgery on Friday to remove it. I’d push for another scan. Best of luck x

Hiya, im so sorry for your loss.
Thank you, yes you are right, I rang my EPU again and demanded a scan or a referral and they gave me a scan and it was retained tissue they told me to wait 3 weeks as the doctor beleived it would have gone by then but did offer surgery if I would rather that. It was a difficult decision but I did choose to wait and within a couple of days the bleeding stopped and my tests are extremely light now almost not there anymore.
So hopefully this is the end of all that and can start to move forward.
