How long did it take for Miscarriage to start

I had some red bleeding (Saturday) which stopped after a few hours, turning brown the following day and stopping completely by Monday.
I also had a tiny bit of spotting the week before but had to wait to be fitted in for a scan.

On Tuesday the scan confirmed no growth since 6week scan and heartbeat had stopped, I was 8+2.

As of yet, the bleeding hasn’t started up again and I’ve only had some mild back pain.

This is my second loss and the last one started with bleeding, stopped and started again 2 days later which was very intense cramps and passing clots for a hour or so (actually ended up being ectopic) however this is talking much longer to start again.

Did anyone else’s MC bleeding stop and start? And if so, how long did you wait for it to start back up properly?

I’m already thinking about going back to hospital early next week to ask for medical management as I can’t sit around just waiting for weeks on end.

sharing of experiences would be much appreciated x

Hello, I'm so sorry to hear your going through this. I'm in a similar situation, started having spotting on Friday which was mainly when I went to toilet. Had a scan on Sunday which showed no heartbeat, large yolk sac and a fetal pole too small for other measurements, 2.1mm, no heartbeat. I'm back for follow up scan on Thursday of next week but the bleeding has became bright red in colour but still only when I wipe after a wee. Horrific cramps last night, like mini contractions but nothing as of yet.
So confusing as to whether I am miscarrying or not, but with the pain I figure I must be.
My previous mc was so quick, it happened before I could even realise what was happening.
No advice really, just didn't want to read and run.
Sending love xx

I'm so sorry you've lost your baby.

I had a lot of miscarriages, and I found the bleeding stopped and started.

The best way to resolve this is to ask for surgical management. That's just my opinion, but I've read so many threads on here about failed and long drawn out medical management.

I don't think that just leaving you to wait is kind, or acceptable.

BTW I had a miscarriage at 14 weeks where the pregnancy had stopped developing at about 6 weeks. I didn't bleed till the 14 weeks, then I bled so much I needed a blood transfusion and emergency surgery.

H20202 · 10/04/2024 11:19

Thank you both and I’m sorry @Gemh4 for what you’re going through too xx

@TheShellBeach i was offered all the options I chose to wait given it looked like I had already started and I was hopeful it would pick back up. If it doesn’t get going I’ll go back the hospital in the next few days 😢 I’m sorry for losses too and all you’ve been through xx

I had mmc a few years ago and opted to do it naturally and having experienced it I'd definitely go for the surgical procedure as it took three weeks to start and was just awful

I had a miscarriage a few months ago OP, at roughly the same dates as you. It stopped and started for about 5 days, then I had a week of very heavy bleeding. I knew when it had 'passed' as it came out into my pad and after that it did die down a little but. Probably took 2 weeks in all for everything to stop and for tests to go back to negs.

I'm so sorry OP, it's soul destroying x

Hi OP I am sorry you are going through this, my last pregnancy stopped growing at around 7w, I found out at 9 weeks after a long drawn out process where it was clear I was going to miscarry anyway, I bled on and off for two weeks until finally having an MVA at 11 weeks. I was booked in when I found out about the miscarriage but it was a two week wait so call the hospital and ask when you can be seen as there might be a wait during which it passes anyway but if it doesn’t then at least you know an endpoint of that makes sense?

TheShellBeach · 15/04/2024 14:51

How are you, @H20202?

H20202 · 15/04/2024 15:48

I was going to go in today to talk about medical/surgical options as nothing much happened in the week - but had some bleeding so held off… bleeding now stopped again - so frustrating! I’ll go in tomorrow regardless to get a plan in place. EPAU said I can have pessaries and pass at home but when I’ve read up more it’s x2 diff meds 2 days apart which wasn’t explained so need to check what their process is 😩 exhausted with it all now x @TheShellBeach thanks for checking in xxx

Hope you're okay, OP.

H20202 · 18/04/2024 16:14

@TheShellBeach getting there! Had the first tab yesterday and cramping and bleeding now. Pessaries tomorrow and then hopefully be all over - dreading the pain but I’ve been there before I’ll be ok! Xx

Hiya I’m new on here, I’ve been Googling my symptoms etc and I came across this page

I’m currently 5 weeks pregnant, so still very early, I started having bleeding (very red blood) on Monday morning and since it has got heavier and since yesterday I have been passing large blood clots (size of an orange) I’ve passed 3 so far that size and the rest ranging from the size of a pea to stringy like bits. I’m in pain, I have pain in my lower abdomen, my right side and my back. I went to the epu on Tuesday had scan but was inconclusive and couldn’t see anything in the sack because of being so early. I had bloods done too which my hcg was 1300. I’ve been back to the epu today and had more bloods and my hcg has gone to 2000 and something so it has gone higher which is a good sign I suppose. But I’m just so confused on what all the pain is and the bleeding! Ive already got a little girl and my pregnancy with her was not like this at all… only had a tiny bit of spotting, no pain and no bleeding like this. Because of the clots they want me to go back in tomorrow for another assessment and scan, but I don’t know what difference they will see on the scan as I am still 5 weeks.

please can someone enlighten me or give some kind of advice, whether it’s positive or negative experiences, I just need something! I’m so overwhelmed, exhausted and confused

H20202 · 25/04/2024 20:29

The only time I’ve passed clots that size are with a MC. It could be a subchorionic hematoma but I can’t really comment on that as I’ve never had them before. I think with the size, amount and your pains etc it sounds more like a MC - however I really hope that’s not the case for you.

What are your clots like? With my MC they were very irregular shapped, jelly like & dark dark red with grey bits x

It’s just very confusing for me as like I say I had my hcg results back today from Tuesday and they have increased and gone up to 2000 from 1300. But my question is really can that happen and still have a MC? I don’t know I’ve never experienced one before thankfully. I am in pain, it comes in waves, it’s mainly an uncomfortable cramp consistently and then a wave of sharp stabbing pains in my side and abdomen.

the clots that were large were dark jelly type substance, strange shape. Averagely a size of an orange, I’ve had 3 of those today. I have got pictures but I don’t know how I feel about posting those

H20202 · 25/04/2024 20:43

Might just take a while for your body to realise and hormone to come down? I’m sorry it’s so uncertain x
