Extremely strange period post miscarriage - normal?

I had a miscarriage at the start of Feb, bled heavily for 4 days and then it tapered off.

Didnt have a period until last week, it was very, very light which I know is normal. It’s finished but the night before last I woke up to what I thought was my wetting the bed (😳) but when I checked it was a lot of very liquidy blood. When I stood up a big, lemon sized clot came away. I’ve had light bright red blood since then, but barely enough for a pad.

Was it a bit of retained product coming away?

I feel completely fine in myself, no temp/body aches etc and no more clots since then.

I can't help with the clot although it does sound as though it was maybe retained tissue. Did you get a scan afterwards?
I had surgery for my MMC early feb and my period recently was really light, mucusy at points too and mostly when I wiped. Hardly filled a pad, it was also only a couple of days long. Totally different to before my MC. I'm going to wait for my next period before trying again to check it's a bit more normal but from what I've read it seems to be the same for a lot of people.

I’m really sorry you’ve had to go through this too @jellyfish2, I hope you’ve been ok.

Yes my period sounds exactly like yours minus the random middle of the night clot, so I do think something must have been retained. No I didn’t have a scan after, I was in such a bad mindset I just wanted to forget about it all.

Hopefully it's just our body adjusting after the trauma it's been through. It's just so sad isn't it.
It sounds like your body has just expelled it with your period then, fingers crossed that is it. I think you would feel unwell if it had caused any issues.

@Queijo did you get a negative test post MC? Both of my periods post MC this time have been tsunami like (have always had really heavy periods but OMG) but I've had random big clots also. Like you no pain or fever and I definitely had negative test 3 weeks post MC so I'm assuming it's normal? I also didn't scan after any of my MCs cause like you I just wanted to forget about it as much as I could.

I had this after surgical management, it was almost more upsetting than the procedure somehow! I suddenly flooded at work then passed a huge clot. It took my massively by surprise as my bleeding had stopped and wasn't too bad following the D&C. My period after that was fine and I was PG again within 6 months.

Hope you're doing ok.

Queijo · 05/04/2024 20:38

@nearly8 yes I had a negative test just before my period so definitely nothing too serious.

Ive read that heavy periods can be quite normal after a miscarriage, but if you’re worried maybe worth checking in with your dr? Hope you’re doing ok. It’s all such a headfuck!

@househelpneeded24 god that’s sounds horrendous, I also had a flood after bleeding let up but thankfully I was at home. I hope work was ok and you were able to get sorted.

So happy to hear your had a pregnancy afterwards (hoping everything is/was ok!) as that’s been my biggest worry. But positive stories help. Thank you

It's years ago now, but I had a really light period just after my first miscarriage and it was months before I conceived again. It was really heavy after my second and that time I conceived first month of trying, literally just before I turned 40! Keep the faith x

ReetPetity · 06/04/2024 05:54

I’ve had three losses and my cycles were completely different afterwards each time. One was much lighter like you described, another much heavier. Both times it was concerning because it was not my “normal” at a time when I didn’t need to feel like anything else might be going wrong. I wouldn’t worry about this cycle being light, but if you’re still passing tissue, that might be worth getting checked out, just in case. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Rosyposy26 · 09/04/2024 20:16

I had a mc start of Feb, 27 days later I had a very very light spotting. Im
still waiting for a period now 10 days late keep doing pregnancy tests all BFN not sure I’m ovulating either called Drs they said to come back in June. Just don’t know what to do

nearly8 · 12/04/2024 08:00

@Queijo I'm just riding it out Hun. I have always had heavy periods anyway and this last one only lasted 4 days which is unheard of for me. I'm taking that as a win as unusual as it is 😂😂 mine are usually 7-10 days!!
@ReetPetity same!! I've had three and my cycle has been different each time. Various degrees of heavy but I pretty much expected that things would be a bit up in the air especially with three back to back losses.
@Rosyposy26 come back in June?? Omg that is ridiculous. I'd be pressing them for more answers. I mean yes your cycle can be pretty messed up after a loss but if it seems that you are also not ovulating then I think you might have to stomp your feet and dig your heels in Hun. June is so far away.
Look after yourselves ladies and try to find something to make you smile today 💐 💐

Rosyposy26 · 12/04/2024 08:06

@nearly8 I'm actually on way to hospital now to have a scan I called the miscarriage line at hospital and they said to have me in to see what’s going on.

@nearly8

Had scan found some tissue not sure if left over from miscarriage or if it’s new that hasn’t developed had bloods taken and they will call with result may need repeated blood tests to see if level has risen on Monday if not will need to go in for a D&C

nearly8 · 12/04/2024 11:48

Thank you not feeling hopeful though as all tests are a BFN

nearly8 · 12/04/2024 12:13

@Rosyposy26 well stranger things have happened Hun. It could be so early that your tests aren't sensitive enough. I totally get what you mean though - hard to get your hopes up. But there are success stories and I'm hoping that you come back and tell us you are one of them 🤗

Hospitals just called bloods are showing less than 1 of pregnancy hormone so not looking viable I have to go in Monday and they will do more bloods and check everything and hormones will also put more on progesterone for 7 days to see if that kick starts and resets my periods

I have a 12 mm growth in my womb which (possibly old tissue or what they class a a molar pregnancy) they are not sure what it is yet if the progesterone don't work they will do a hycrosy where they will stick a camera up and take a biopsy to see what's what. Xx
