Trying again...how soon?

I had a mc over the Easter weekend and the bleeding is really dropping off now (almost gone) - the EPAU advised me to ait for a period before starting TTC again - what advice have others had? I feel impatient to give it another go but dont want to rush it if there's a medical reason for waiting...any sugggestions?

I'm in the same boat - same timing and everything. The EPU told me to wait until I had a normal period. Which to means one cycle, but I suppose it could be longer if I felt there was something unusual.

Also anxious to TTC as soon as possible, but we're going to wait that one cycle. I would be absolutely devastated if this happened again and I don't want to take any chances. Although many women do conceive right after a mc with no complications at all.

Hiya quarkee, sorry to hear of your mc.

I have had a couple in the last year and I was never told to wait a bit afterwards.

We took it upon ourselves to start practicing once we both felt comfortable enough to try.

After the one in July07 we left it about 3 weeks, and after the one in Nov07 we have left it nearly 3 months, mainly due to other pressures in the family and me feeling a bit unsure of things emotionally.

Thanks guys - we will probably wait becasue if i mc again I'd always be asking myself whether waiting could have prevented it - daft isn't it? Someone said on another thread how mc took the joy out of her subsequent pg for her and I am beginning to understand that - I can forsee lots of worry ahead even though DH is right to say that we cant control this one...am cross that the fun has gone though...my case is slightly complicated by the fact that i cant start taking the meds for my recently diagnosed Parkinsons until i have had DC2 whenever that will be so in the meantime i get slower and slower...it never rains but it pours eh? Does anyone know any good jokes???

quarkee - sorry to hear about your recent miscarriage & the complications with your Parkinsons.

I have also just miscarried (yesterday actually - although I had known for a while that something was wrong) and the consultant I saw at the EPU today said that the main reason for waiting for one period was so that the next pregnancy could be dated correctly. We can start trying again as soon as we are ready emotionally i.e. right after the miscarriage (after the bleeding stops) and there will be no risk to future pregnancies. She said that my body won't conceive again if it isn't ready to.

Having said that - I understand your logic. Everyone is different and you need to do whatever works best for you.

That's also what I've heard Newto, it's mainly for dating for reasons and they will say otherwise, if there is another reason. Not everyone is ready, I certainly wasn't after the 1 m/c but after this 2nd one I think we will be more ready to try again sooner rather than later.
With 6mths between my 2 m/c, I know that waiting didn't make any difference for me, so I figure I may as well not wait this time and see what happens.

I was told after my first m/c that I could start trying again immediately. But I was too nervous to. I got pregnant again five months later but m/cd again. I tried again immediately afterwards and was pregnant within three weeks of the m/c. Am now nearly 15 weeks and everything is fine.

It's up to you what you decide, but try and stay hopeful.

My advice would be to wait a little while so that you grieve for the baby you lost and don't get preg to replace it. I immediately felt I wanted to replace my lost baby, conceived after first cycle but lost it immediately (think my uterus was too thin after D&C) We then waited til after the wedding and I'm preg with our first child now, NOT a replacement baby but a baby in her/his own right, if you get me. xxx

I second the advice that you probably won't concieve till your body is ready anyway.

I had a m/c end of feb, was to told to wait one cycle for dating purposes, but wanted to try again immediately. Tried with the Ov PK first month to find I didn't ovulate as usual ( V regular), and secondly didnt get period till 6 weeks later! Think everything seems to be back to normal now - but glad in a roundabout way that I have had a couple of months for loss to sink in.

sorry to hear your news. I got pregnant fairly soon after my MC. Medical advice varied, but the most sensible advice re waiting was that you should wait 3 months to allow your cycle to settle back down, so you didn't have to go through too many disappointments when trying to conceive. Seemed to make sense.

I have just had mc and the NHS leaflet I was given said that the only benefit of waiting a cycle would be for dating purposes, and that if you conceive before your next period there is no increased risk of mc. Which I thought was quite encouraging!

Just wanted to add this - someone who has had quite a few fertility issues told me that her doctor said after a mc your lining is fresh and therefore ideal for implanting

Oh really? Is that the case if you have D&C also?

So sorry! i had 2 mc's. d&c's with both.
After my second in the sep, i was pg again by the dec. She's now sleeping upstairs!!

just wanted to add. i took half an aspirin daily for the first few weeks i was pg with dd. not sure if i should have? But i think it helped?
