Hi this might be normal, I don’t know…
i had a d&c for a miscarriage 5 days ago. I was told after a few days the bleeding would pick up to that of a post pill period. I’ve had cramps and back pain this whole time today the back pain is worse and I’m starting to pass large clots.
is this to be expected?

I'm sorry I don't have experience of this, but suggest phoning the early pregnancy unit at the hospital for advice or presenting at A&E if you're feeling unwell with the bleeding

After my D&C I had a small drop of bright red blood fall on the floor when I got out of bed and that was it. No pain or further blood loss. Not sure what to think about your loss but as you're in pain too I think I would definitely seek medical advice.

I was told after my section that if the bleeding fills a pad an hour then you should be seen. I'd presume it's the same for a dnc

I've had 3 D&C's and apart from a very light bleed/spotting for a couple of days nothing else. Seems like they didn't clear your blood clots as that's what your passing and in pain...I would call the assessment unit and get advice....sorry for your loss 😔 hope you recover soon ❤️

mathanxiety · 31/03/2024 05:58

That looks like a large clot.

I'd go and be seen, tbh.

Thank you so much everyone, I really appreciate your quick replies.
its Easter Sunday where I am so my options have been a bit limited. I was worried because I had passed a few large ones, but it’s stopped now so I think it’s over. If I have any more I will pull the plug and contact my ob on his emergency line

This happened to me. They decided to operate on me again because they feared that there is left tissue. I had to have the surgery again, afterwards all was fine and they told me - after analysing it - that it wasn’t left tissue but blood clots. I think you need to see someone or at least call for advice, but if it has stopped now and you don’t bleed heavily, then it shouldn’t be an emergency (just saying that because I panicked when it happened to me and ran straight to A&E, they told me that as long as there is no constant, running blood that fills a pad every hour I’m not in immediate danger.) But definitely talk to your doctor! Good luck!

I had surgical management the other Wednesday and had normal bleeding for a few days afterwards. Suddenly on the Sunday I had mild contraction like pains and passed huge clots for a few hours. I continued to pass large clots for the next couple of days, and now my bleeding has slowed and almost stopped.

I rang EPU as I was going through pads every 10 mins and they kept in touch throughout. I was told that I was 'unfortunate' and that in some cases they just don't get it all out during the operation. I was told I was just unlucky and going through the same experience as if I had chosen medical management via the tablets. They said as long as I could manage at home then to just let it happen. I couldn't find anything online about this happening to anyone else, but they didn't sound concerned at all, just sympathetic

I've unfortunately had three missed miscarriages

The first one I had medical management and then had retained tissue which after a week caused a sudden and non stop flow of heavy bleeding. I had to sit on the toilet and then on a towel on way to hospital. It poured out when I stood up. It did not stop at all and I was at hospital and having it removed within an hour. This happens if it gets stuck on the cervix and does not stop until it's removed.

There was no way I wanted that again so I had surgical management and had a few large clots which are normal.

If you can do normal things you would do during recovery- sit stand watch tv and walk about I wouldn't panic just yet.

All the best op Flowers

After my D&C for miscarriage I had only a very light bleed
But after having ds there was retained placenta and I was passing big clots like your photo

I think I would double check with epu but if it's easing I'd take it as a positive sign that the bleeding is going to stop soon

Lots of hot water bottles for the cramps. Hope you feel better soon xx
