HCG post d&c

Hi wondering if anyone has had something similar happen to them. I had a MMC in January this year and had a d&c on 12/01/24 ( I would have been 10 weeks and 6 days then). My pregnancy tests never became negative so went back to the hospital 4 weeks after procedure. Was scanned at that time and they said no retained products but my hcg came back at 89. I have been getting serial hcg each week to see if it’s coming down. Went from 89 to 44 to 35. I’m now almost 8 post procedure and just so fed up with it all. Last week I was convinced I ovulated but now this week feels like I’m having my period but having awful cramps but very little bleeding. Have my self worried to death now that I have Ashermans. I have no idea what is going on with my body and didn’t think the EPU team do either. How long do I wait for this to go on I just need this to be all over with

Oh god sorry you're going through this, all you want is it to be negative 4 weeks on so you can move on!! What are the EPU suggesting?

I've not heard of Ashermans, what is it?

Sending lots of love and hope you are coping okay with it all x

sd8809 · 08/03/2024 09:25

EPU are just suggesting repeat weekly bloods till the HCG goes below 10. Ashermans is where scar tissue forms after the d&c and then can lead to fertility issues. Just all so drawn out and I am just so drained by it all and starting to get really anxious about it all. I have two beautiful kids but would love another one and it’s been 8 weeks since procedure and just want to move on 🙃

Wow 8 weeks now. Did you get the tissue tested to see if it was a molar or partial molar? I've heard that can takes agesssssss for HGC to go down when you have that, compared to just a normal run of the mill miscarriage. I would also say everyone's different and there's no set hard and fast rule but 8 weeks is a long time to still have positives. Are they strong positives still or faint?

Hope it goes down soon for you, and that it's not ashermans :(

sd8809 · 08/03/2024 10:46

Yeah the pathology came back normal which is good. The tests are getting fainter but very slowly. Yeah me too don’t need Ashermans now too. So hard to stay positive when it’s been so long

Just wanted to let u know @sd8809 I was the exact same at the start of last year, I could have written ur post word for word. It took just over 10 weeks for hcg to come down, like u I went back to epu at 5 weeks when tests still positive, they had me in every 2 days for about 2-3 weeks, it was coming down but just painfully slow, then by week /10 it was finally hcg 6 so they signed me off. I feel ur pain, it was so long and drawn out and I was physically and mentally worn out from it all. What is ur hcg now? I really hope this weeks blood draw is ur last, sending love x

Thank you for your reply I’m so glad I’m not the only person this has happened to.

My latest blood is 35 and I’m back up on Monday for another and it will have been ten days from the blood that was 35.

Did they explain to you why it took so long? Did you have odd bleeding like bad cramps but very light bleeding?

Did you try again afterwards when everything settled?

thanks

They didn’t really have an explanation for why it took so long, just that ‘everyone is different’ I even had a period and the worst cramps with it around 5/6 weeks after and even after that my hcg was around 90 something 🙈

now here’s the great news.. I got pregnant 2 months later and had our little girl on Valentine’s Day, she’s currently 3.5 weeks old and lying up on me feeding as we speak so there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel❤️ but it’s a dark tunnel to be in for so long with no explanation and wishing the days and weeks away, do lots or anything that makes u happy or fills ur mind, I focused on the gym and long runs to keep my head busy but I know it’s not easy and nothing ever really takes ur mind off it xxx

Thank you so much for your reply you have give me new hop. Congratulations on the new baby a wee treasure x

Love this!!!

May I ask...did you do anything differently (or get anything else tested) to get your bundle of joy or did you just get pregnant and that one just happened to stick?

@esb27 I wouldn’t say I did anything overly different although I (and my DH) had been taking Proceive for about 3 months before I got pregnant with the MC so I continued those and really threw myself into fitness for the few months (more for my head) but I would have run & strength trained anyways. I cut out alcohol completely but I think that’s because I just wasn’t in the right head space to be drinking/over thinking. I’m not sure if any of that helped but it wouldn’t have harmed chances.

as soon as I got my bfp my GP put me on progesterone and I stayed on that until 28 weeks

Ahh that’s interesting! I’m on supplements like proceive but my partner isn’t so I think I’m gunna get him on it ahead of us trying again post miscarriage. Fitness always helps, even more so for the mental side of dealing with loss tbh.
I’m sure the progesterone helped you. I already take it but so many women need it but have no idea they have low levels.
Anyways thanks for replying and congrats again :)

So just an update I demanded to be seen by a consultant this week as I just felt something is not right. I was seen yesterday and scanned by consultant and guess what I have a huge collection of retained products. 9 weeks post procedure I am so angry how I have been fobbed off for so long and how this was missed on two previous ultrsounds. And now they expect me to wait another 8 days to have a redo procedure and this time they can only get me on a list with local anaesthetic so I am expected to endure this whilst awake.

I am SO sorry to hear this!! I'm glad you advocated for yourself but it's such a let down that you felt like you HAD to do this :( and to go through it all again but awake!!! Sending you lots of love.
