Pregnancy after D&C

Hi All,

I found out yesterday at 9 weeks that my baby no longer has a heartbeat despite having one at 7. Understandingly I’m devastated and angry about having a miscarriage again (had one previously before DD).

However, there were added complications at the 7 week scan as they found a mass on my bladder. I have now been offered to have a D&C at the same time as having the bladder mass removed. It all seems to make sense however I am apprehensive about having a D&C as my first miscarriage was natural.

What I’d like to know is of any pregnancy success stories after a D&C. Did it have any impact on the pregnancies? Did they go to full term?

Thanks
x

I’m sorry for your losses.

I haven’t had a D&C, but have friends who did and then went on to have successful pregnancies.

Wishing you all the best 💐

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I had surgery yesterday for my missed miscarriage. I was so scared as I've never had any surgery but it was absolutely fine, all the staff were lovely so pleased don't worry. I've had minimal bleeding and cramps. Physically I'm fine but the emotional impact is obviously a different story.

I can't speak for pregnancy afterwards as this is the first time this has happened to me but hoping someone else can answer as I'd like to know too

Very sorry for your loss. I had surgery for mmc at 11 weeks 2 years ago in Jan. I had a succesful pregnancy and healthy baby the year after.

@123ilovekitties sorry you’re going through this. I had d&c for my mmc on 3rd Jan this year after 2 rounds of failed misoprostol. With hindsight I wish I’d gone straight for surgery. The op was easy, and recovery time was quick, my bleeding stopped within 4 days. I don’t have a pregnancy success story yet, but we are trying again. I had my first period 3 weeks after the d&c, and I’m just coming to the end of this proper cycle, but I am pretty certain AF is on her way. Good luck, hopefully we get there!

Thanks for your messages. Had the d&c and bladder mass removal yesterday. All went well from what I can tell. I was scared of having a GA as never had one before but it was actually great. I’ve had hardly any pain. Didn’t take pain relief until this morning for some mild period type cramps.

Urologist has said I have to wait at least 3 months before can TTC again to monitor the bladder mass. Seems ages away but 🤞 all will be well.

Good luck to everyone else!

I had a d&c for a mmc then went on to have a successful pregnancy. I hope your recovery goes well and good luck with ttc again in the future.

jellyfish2 · 16/02/2024 17:17

@Blue2020 can I ask how long it took for you to conceive?

Blue2020 · 16/02/2024 17:40

@jellyfish2 three cycles, I was using ovulation tests to make sure that I was ovulating after the d&c and also so that we covered dtd before/around ovulation. Ds is now 10 months old.

Sorry for your loss and good luck with trying to conceive again when you choose to. Take as much time as you need to recover.

Thank you, congratulations on your little boy. It's always lovely to hear a positive story after a heartbreaking loss.

Blue2020 · 16/02/2024 18:28

Thankyou, I hope you get a positive outcome in the future after all of this.

Barney2009 · 16/02/2024 20:02

@Blue2020 were you TTC for long before your mmc? I was for 2 years so I’m worried we might not get there again, I’m 39 as well so feel like I’m running out of time!

Blue2020 · 18/02/2024 12:52

@Barney2009 no it was one cycle after stopping the mini pill, I was 30 at that point. My friend tried for 8 months and then had a mc and then conceived on the second cycle after that. I don’t have another example of lengths before/after a miscarriage. I have another friend who has taken 4.5 years and three failed ivf rounds to then conceive naturally in her mid 30s, she’s now in the third trimester.

Sorry for your loss, and after such a long wait. I hope you manage to.

Barney2009 · 18/02/2024 13:52

@Blue2020 thanks for your message. You’re very lucky you managed to conceive so quickly, what’s the secret lol! I’m just hoping that my miscarriage may have woken something up in my body and we’ll get there soon. Had all the tests and everything appears normal, so it’s all a bit of a frustrating mystery, but we’ll keep going. Amazing how many people try with ivf and then go onto get pregnant naturally, glad it worked out for your friend 😊

Blue2020 · 18/02/2024 21:13

@Barney2009 I have no idea otherwise I would tell you. I have heard that people in general may conceive quicker after a miscarriage, I hope it’s true for you.

I had a work colleague who had all the tests and they appeared fine, they had one round of ivf and they noticed that her lining was on the thin side. It was the only indication on why they may not have conceived in three years of trying.

For my friend it was the month directly after the failed ivf, so I wonder if it helped in some way.

I had a healthy pregnancy 3 months after a d&c and went to full term. I'm sure you will get your baby soon OP. Very best of luck

MamaMode · 18/02/2024 22:23

I had a D&C for MMC and when on to have a totally problem free pregnancy less than a year later
