IVF next option?

Has anyone who has experienced recurrent miscarriages successfully conceived after going down the pgt-a IVF route? I am being told different things by different doctors and its making this decision very difficult. Not sure whether to try again naturally or do IVF with PGT-A testing and hope for the best. I am 38 and we know 1 loss was chromosomal (trisomy 21).

I’m sorry for your losses.

We lost three pregnancies after our eldest, and our youngest was conceived by IVF with pre-implantation screening. He’s now a bashy, lively 18-month old.

We were told by our consultant to keep trying naturally before the IVF and between cycles (we got lucky on our second round). But before each time he let me know he hoped we’d get lucky in the meantime.

Personally, I’m so glad we did the screening. I felt quite broken as the losses were within 10 months of each other and I wanted to minimise the chance of it happening again. And it was reassuring to know in the early days of the pregnancy.

Best of luck with everything.

Thanks @ReetPetity its really helpful to hear your experience. Did you know the losses were chromosomal? Did you get many normal embryos when you tried? I would love to try again naturally but my losses were all in the space of 7 months including 2 D & Cs and im just not sure i can do it again plus the anxiety of the first trimester is immense now.

I had one DS naturally then 3 MCs. One of them was at 8 weeks and we’d already had a scan and saw the heartbeat and it was so sad. We decided to keep trying naturally after that 8 week loss but I had chemical after chemical. We had the 8 week loss tested and he had triploidy. After all the chemicals we just decided to go down the IVF route- like you, the heartbreak was just too much.

We had a little boy via IVF.

Fell pregnant last year again, naturally, and MC at 12 weeks- this time it was hydrocephalus. A little girl.

I’m done with it all now but if I were to hypothetically go for a third then I would turn to IVF again.

We don’t know what caused the miscarriages and one loss was an ectopic. I have a genetic variant that means I have sticky blood and it can cause issues with blood flow to the baby (both my successful pregnancies were high risk because of this), but it could just as easily have been chromosomal.

We got one normal embryo in each cycle - and the second embryo stuck!

I had therapy between the losses and starting IVF and also went to some groups with the miscarriage association. I found it so helpful with processing everything, because it is a lot.

Best of luck, whatever you decide.

I think it depends on why you are having the miscarriages. We lose them at implantation so ivf wouldn't really help

Im pretty sure its due to chromosomal errors as the second had trisomy 21. I will hopefully get the results of the third in the next few weeks. The first i will never know but if third is chromosomal i will assume the first was too.

@Hklg hey, I know this is an old thread but just wondering did you go down the PGT-A route in the end? How’s it all going and what clinic did you use? I’m about to start IVF with testing in the next couple of weeks x
