Low AFC and previous miscarriages

RMCx3 · 07/01/2024 15:16

Hi- ive had 3 recurrent miscarriages. I saw a specialist and had a 3d scan of my pelvis. The scan was all positive save for that afc is 6 which below average for my age (38 years old). Me and my husband dont have any children.

We are at a lost, what do we do? Try again naturally? Do IVF? What success do we actually have? Shall we freeze eggs whilst we try?

Completely deflated and heartbroken 💔

Really sorry for your losses.

After 3 MCs you should be able to get some additional tests to see if they can find out if there is any reason they can identify. Might be worth exploring this before the IVF route.

I’ve had 2 MCs and recently had a consultation at a fertility clinic. The consultant explained that (although it doesn’t feel like it post MC) it is positive that you can get pregnant and fertility wise you are actually in a better place than someone who cannot conceive naturally.

I would go to your GP and let them know how long you have been trying for (say at least 2 years) in case you do want to go down the NHS IVF route.

Best of luck.

Thank you for your message. Ive seen a gynaecologist privately recently, she referred me to have a 3d scan. The 3d scan report stated i have 6 afc. I saw the recurrent miscarriage clinic via nhs after my second MC and all blood tests came back clear. I agree the fact can conceive is positive but the heartache of a MC, as you know is unbearable.

It’s really tough - while it is good news that the tests are clear it doesn’t give you any answers. FWIW we are giving it 6 months and if we haven’t conceived by then, we will likely go down the IVF route (with PGT-A testing of the embryos, in case a genetic issue is causing the MCs).

Exactly and its frustrating. Wishing you all the best. I feel you will have positive news soon. Stay positive, this is a journey that has highs and lows, but its important to stay determined and be strong. Feel free to reach out :)
