Looking for advice and what to expect.

Had a scan today at 12 + 2 showing baby has no heartbeat and died over last couple of days. Wanted the surgical option but they're not able to do this at the hospital due to a 12 week cut off period and no staff to do it due to Christmas. Was told to call bpas and arrange through them. The earliest date they've offered me for a phone consultation is 2nd Jan which feels too late.

I'm scared of the pain and seeing the baby. Only options now is wait or medical management. How bad will the pain be? If it happens at home what do I do with the baby and placenta? How long will it/ is it likely to take?

So sorry this is must be awful for you. I don’t know about medical management but didn’t want to read and run ❤️

I'm so sorry. I had a mmc three years ago at this time of year. I decided to go privately for the surgical option as I didn't want it hanging over me over Xmas. I had the surgery three days later and it cost £1500 (Surrey). My husband took me at 12 (I had to go alone due to covid) and picked me up at 6. Xx

I’m so sorry. How awful that there is no one to provide your much needed medical care because it’s Christmas. I truly hope you get the answers you need.

@NphysT hey there, so sorry to hear your sad news. This happened to me in August. Went for 12 week scan and no heartbeat. It’s so utterly devastating and shocking. I wanted to wait to see if it happened naturally, and luckily for me 4 days after first scan it started. It started on the Thursday spotting, and Sunday bad cramps and heavy bleeding through to the Monday. I won’t lie it wasn’t nice and pretty painful but I felt this was best way in opposed to surgery which also can take longer to conceive again after. I bled quite a lot that week but no pain, by the Friday I went to the bathroom and a golf ball size (sorry all I can describe it as) fell out of me and I feel terrible to say but I flushed it. I was just in shock . After that no more bleeding and started to feel normal again. Hope you make the right decision for you, and I absolutely get why you want it done sooner rather than later. I think if it were me I would’ve taken the tablets if it hadn’t started naturally and still avoided surgery. Good luck and be kind to yourself xx

So very sorry to hear this awful news and at a really awful time too. No words can make you feel better I know but sending virtual hugs.
I had the same thing happen to me at our 12 week scan in October, although ours had only ever grown to embryo stage. It is heartbreaking and a terrible shock. Thinking of you.

Thank you all, we had a scan 2 days earlier where baby had a heartbeat and was moving around but there was some fluid around the heart which is why we had another scan today but didn't expect there to be no heartbeat.

I am scared to go to the toilet in case I see blood, I'm not ready for it but need it to be over. Why does no one prepare you for this?

Sorry for your loss!! I found out on sat 2nd sept at my private gender scan my baby had passed around a week earlier. On the Monday it was confirmed by hospital and I was booked in for the following Sunday by choice. It was my 2nd this year and both times I had medical management. Pain was well managed and for me it didn’t last long either time. I spent time with both babies after and I don’t regret a thing. We were given one of the blankets baby had been wrapped in and a memory box 🥰

Hi, did you have yours with local or general anaesthetic? I can't decide between them.

Bpas got me an earlier appointment, midwife wants to confirm some details with the gp before giving me an appointment for the surgery and said she will call Wednesday or Thursday most likely. Wish I didn't have to wait so long for this to be over.

Have been getting some pain on my left side although I've had this before the miscarriage too so not sure if this is the process happening naturally or not.

I had general anaesthetic. I wasn’t offered local. You poor thing having to wait especially over Xmas, I was the same and I waited over ten days to have the surgery. I did start spotting while I was waiting but it didn’t get any heavier for me and I didn’t have any pain. I don’t regret getting general anaesthetic, it was over when I woke up and recovery was fine.
