How long until a miscarriage is over

Hello,

I'm 7w3d pregnant but had a private scan at 6w4d due to brown discharge which showed baby measuring quite a bit behind with an abnormal shaped sac. They couldn't tell where the bleeding was coming from.

The brown discharge has continued and yesterday it became red and I started getting cramps. Wondering how long this process of miscarriage is going to take? The blood is mainly when I wipe and if I go walking I wear a pad it will maybe fill less than a quarter of the pad. It's still mostly brown and occasionally a bit red. Cramps have come and gone. Just done a pregnancy test and it's still pretty strong. Just wondering how much longer now I've had 6-7 days of brown discharge and 2 days reddish blood when wiping and cramps?

I'm sorry to hear what you are going through. I don't think there's any definitive length of time that the process lasts - for some people it's over very quickly and for others it goes on for some time. Have you had any scans at your local EPU/EGU? Miscarriages don't always complete so there is the possibility that you might need some management to help it along, in which case getting into the EPU would help with understanding what's happening and getting help if you need it. My miscarriage started with light bleeding that was brown/pink, got heavier and more red with clots, then reduced and eventually stopped (this was over the course of about 10 days), so I ended up having surgical management.

Look after yourself and I hope things progress for you so you have more certainty.

I'm sorry. I'm afraid it might still be ahead of you. You need to pass the sac and all pregnancy tissue. I passed the sac on Tuesday night and still nowhere near stopping bleeding and cramping. I had been spotting and had had brown discharge since the end of October before that.
I hope you are ok. It is tough.

Hi, I'm so sorry you are going through this. I found out about my MMC on the 8th, booked in same day as I had some pinkish discharge. Found out I had miscarried. At that point I was 8w+3 but was measuring around 7w+3.

For me the bleeding started that night and I passed the sac on the 12th and today is the first day of no bleeding but I am still testing positive for pregnancy. I hope this helps, everyones body is different so theres no definitive timeline I'm afraid.

Thanks so much! I've just passed the sac after hours of cramps and now feel normal (no more pain/cramps). Hoping this means it's all over.

I continued to bleed for around 2 weeks after I passed the sac in both of my miscarriages but it gradually got lighter and tailed off and was not painful for the whole time. I was 7 weeks with both. I am so sorry you're going through this.
