Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Hpv and miscarriage

I am looking for any support and advice.

For the past three years I have been HPV positive. In July I had a colposcopy which showed no abnormal cells. I have to have a repeat smear in a year.

That same month as the colposcopy after two years TTC I fell pregnant. Sadly I lost that baby at 8 weeks.

My questions are has anyone struggled to get pregnant because of HPV?

Has anyone found that having a colposcopy helped them fall pregnant?

Does anyone know if having a HPV can cause you to have a miscarriage?

Many thanks for letting me ramble all the thoughts in my head.

Sorry to hear you lost your baby, OP.

I had a blighted ovum miscarriage in March this year, and then sadly lost my baby girl at 15 weeks on October 16. I too have HPV and mentioned this to my doctors in case this has had some effect on my pregnancies, however, he assured me that HPV does not have any impact on pregnancies and is not known to cause any type of miscarriage.

I'm not sure on whether it can make it harder to get pregnant or not, or whether a colposcopy makes a difference, but wishing you the best of luck in your journey x

@Hopingforbabynumber1 I also had HPV and at my last colposcopy was told that it shouldn't have any impact on having a family. I was also TTC first child and ended in MMC which has been the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. Now due my next smear and I'm so hoping it's resolved. Fingers crossed it works out for us both next time.

I have HPV and have had 4 miscarriages, some of which were a Blighted Ovum.

Tommys have published a long term study which does show a link between HPV and miscarriages. Have tried to link it below.

Its surprising that doctors don’t make more people aware of this.

Incidentally, when I took a steroid called Predniserone, this improved the outcome in that I saw a heart beat for the first time. The baby had a chromosomal abnormality and sadly I miscarried anyway but hope this helps somebody else.

Sorry for your losses @Sassi81.

Just to update, my most recent smear came back negative which was such a huge relief. Apparently it often clears itself after a few years so I hope my update helps others.
