Positive test 11 days after miscarriage

Can anyone help or share if you've had experienced similar.. I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks, within 3 days of finding out, I had a miscarriage, friday was brown spotting, then from saturday to Wednesday, heavy-ish bleeding with clotting. I should also mention my pregnancy symptoms (sore boobs) completely went away. I had a blood test on the Friday and my HGC was 60, I had another Monday and the level was 30, Dr confirmed a miscarriage. My pregnancy test on the 1st day of bleeding was near completely negative, with the faintest hint of a line, a digital one still confirmed 1-2 weeks though. 11 day's later and as a generic request from the doctor to do another pregnancy test, I did one this morning and I've now got a medium - strong positive line on my pregnancy test?

I know HCG can take weeks to go, but I have no idea how it could have been negative last week and this week its a clear positive, and a clear blue test is saying 1-2 weeks today also? I should, by this Friday, be 7 weeks. So if it wasn't a miscarriage it should read 3+ at least.

I had sex the day I found out I was pregnant, which would now be 15 days ago.

I've called the doctor to ask for a scan and another blood test.

I don't understand how I would have been negative last week and positive this week? Has anyone had anything similar happen?

Test on the left is day 1 of miscarriage, 11 days ago and test on right is today.

Two options really: leftover hCG or twins. But if it were twins then your hCG wouldn’t have dropped so I’d say most likely leftover hCG.

Last week was probably a false negative.
My tests were positive for 5 weeks after MC.

I’m sorry for your loss Flowers

Twins? Late implant?

Cloclo93 · 25/10/2023 12:48

Interesting, maybe you ovulated again either while you were pregnant (the embro could of died at 4 weeks) or ovulated straight away after miscarriage? Your tests should of been getting lighter not darker! It could be possible Your still pregnant, keep us updated :)

I wondered about twins and thought maybe if I lost 1 the hcg would have dropped slightly and now maybe its going back up again if the other is still OK?

But I don't know how left over hcg would be stronger on a test this week compared to last week, surely that's not possible?

I've just had another blood test scheduled for today as the hospital said they would rather check that my hcg is over 2000 before a scan as a rule of thumb..

So I will wait and see what the results show tomorrow/Friday.

Thank you all for your thoughts 🙏

I had a positive test for well over 3weeks with my miscarriage. The other possibility is retained product?

SunflowerB · 25/10/2023 19:38

I know there could still be levels of hCG present weeks after miscarriage, but I wouldn't have thought that my pregnancy test is getting stronger 1 week after testing negative. Would RPOC still be creating hCG?

@SunflowerB keep in mind that how ‘strong’ a test is depends on so many things- time of day, how much you’ve been drinking, the test itself…. Just don’t want you to get hurt all over again if a miscarriage is confirmed again tomorrow.

Cloclo93 · 26/10/2023 14:42

Did you test again today ?

SunflowerB · 26/10/2023 17:51

I've tested again and still positive. The HCG came back and it's 30 again. The doctor has scheduled in a call for tomorrow with me to discuss what to do next. I am so confused, and really frustered with still not knowing what it means.

It's possible your still pregnant, do the tests look darker?

SunflowerB · 26/10/2023 21:45

If the hcg isn't increasing after a week, I would think its most likely RPOC. I don't think I'm still pregnant, I took a test today and no difference, but I'll give it another day or two before I test again now

Thank you x

If hcg has stayed the same sounds like an ectopic? I might be wrong but the same happened to my friend x

Can you have an ectopic without any pain though? X

Yes some people don't have pain until it actually ruptures. My cousin also had 1 last year & she said she bled for a few days heavily so come to terms with losing the baby already but then a week after her side started hurting and she went to a&e & she was rushed to theatre and they took her tube out unfortunately. I hope this obvs isn't the case for you x
