HCG levels - possible ectopic?

SnookyPook · 25/10/2023 00:03

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experience of this.

4+1 - HCG 69
5+2 - HCG 137 (!!!)
6 - HCG 598

Basically, first week rise was absolutely sh!t but then it's picked up and has risen as it ought to.

After a MMC in April and a CP last month, I can't help feeling this slow start isn't great. Was fully expecting a fall/plateau today but the rise has thrown me and now I'm a bit worried about an ectopic.

The last bloods were from today and I'm going back on Thursday so hopefully that will provide some clarity. Also, they've said if the levels go above 1000 they will be able to scan.

Just wondered if anyone has any relevant experience they wouldn't mind sharing. Thank you x

The numbers are going in the right direction, doubling up as they should, sounds easier said than done but keep relaxed. Holding space for you, it must be so worrying after a MMC ❤️ I hope you get some more clarity today from your blood tests.

@SnookyPook what was the outcome?

@Skattycatty123 unfortunately the bloods a couple of days later had barely risen again. They then had me in again on the Saturday with a concern of an ectopic and wanting to give me methotrexate but thankfully the HCG had started dropping by then. They decided to monitor for a couple more days so I then went in again on the Monday and they scanned and couldn't find any evidence of a pregnancy (uterine or other) other than a slightly thickened womb lining and bleeding evident. The sonographer was surprised I'd not had any blood loss by that point. They decided based on the scan and falling hcg not to give the methotrexate but told me to get back to them if I was still testing positive in a couple of weeks. I actually then started bleeding that evening which tbh was just a relief by that point.

On a happier note, I unexpectedly fell pregnant again a couple of weeks after! We weren't tracking and I must have ovulated late because we had planned to have a break over Christmas and await our fertility referral. Someone had other plans and I'm currently about to turn 20wks tomorrow with our rainbow baby 🙏🏼🌈💕

Hope you're ok and not in a similar position? But if you are, know that there can still be light at the end of the tunnel. 💗

@SnookyPook thanks for replying. m in similar situation now,HCG Friday 66,HCG Sunday 71. I'm on progesterone for previous losses and I think I'll just stop as I think that's what's making me not bleed. Next bloods tomorrow, fingers crossed they are reduced. And yes that is a happy ending to your story ❤️❤️❤️

@Skattycatty123 sorry to hear it. It's so sad and frustrating - especially after previous losses. I did find the loss hit me less hard with that one - I think because it felt like the pregnancy never really got going and I was also so scared of ruptures etc that I was just relieved by the time it resolved itself. But it's still a loss and so hard when you don't know what's coming next. I hope your little rainbow comes along soon. 🙏🏼💗

Hey hun , congratulations on your rainbow baby 🌈 👶

I’m in a similar position , I tested positive 1-2 weeks pregnant on clear blue

Tuesday I went in for bloods it came back Wednesday 50 then Thursday I tested again and it came back 62, the Epau I’m attending to now said it is looking like it’s not going to be a healthy pregnancy , but the Epau I used for the miscarriage is saying that it’s going up and not to worry if you ain’t got bleeding or cramping . My Pogestrian is 27 meant to be 30 apparently .

do you think I’m ok ? Or be expected to have bad news im so tempted to go a n e tomorrow to get some more bloods done , just to see if they have risen anymore x

@Soph202230 how far along are you? I would say your levels look pretty low sadly and not rising as hoped

Im only 1-2 weeks pregnant , I was 1-2 weeks pregnant as well when I had the miscarriage and had already started bleeding after two weeks but no bleeding or cramping . Xx

I’m actually thinking to go a n e tomorrow coz I can’t wait till next week , I wanna get them done tomorrow to see if they have gone up, but I’m not sure if a n e are allowed to tell you your results, surely they are with a nurse that’s qualified x

A&E gave me my hcg results but everywhere is different. they would take them and then a nurse would call me later with the results.
hcg can vary wildly, and you are only very early but if you can get some reassurance with repeat tests that would be ideal.
Good luck x

@Soph202230 sounds like your previous bloods were only a day apart? Normally they would leave it 48hrs. If you are able to get a repeat done tomorrow it might give you a better idea of how it's rising. Not sur if a&e would do that or not. As @H20202 said, everywhere seems quite different with what they do etc. Hope you get some answers quickly though. It's horrible being left in limbo. X

Hey hun so they was done on Tuesday which was 9/04/2024, at around 5pm.

then they repeated them Thursday 11th March at 2pm , I been told they should really wait 72 hours to be on the plus side . Yeah , a&e will do it but I’ll have to say I’ve got cramps or somethings up to see them and I don’t really want to jinx my self.

I did do a clear blue last Friday it came back 1-2 when shall I do another one for it to say 2-3 xxx

@Soph202230 I think in order to get a 2-3 you need between 157-2500. The tests aren’t accurate; depending on how diluted your urine is for example and the window is huge. The only accurate way to track hcg is blood tests, continue retuning to a&e/EPAU and asking them to monitor. X

@Soph202230 I agree with @H20202 - CB tests are notorious for not being very accurate and causing more anxiety! Get bloods done at hospital to be sure. In all honesty though if your two previous results were about 45hrs apart, I would probably gently suggest preparing for bad news. My EPU did say cautiously that sometimes HCG stalls for some unknown reason and picks up, but I dont think that is very common. Do let us know how you get on if you want to. I'll keep everything crossed for you 💕

Hey , thank you for this I’m already expecting the worse to happen 😪😪I have no signs of bleeding either or cramping .

last time I had a miscarriage on Mother’s Day last month , (pregnancy of unknown location) as it wasn’t in the womb I had cramping and bleeding ten days later, the cramping started around a week after …..

im Really praying my hcgs are just low because I honestly don’t think I can mentally do this again . 💔😰, my partners always away on work trips so I’m basically going through it on my own as well. Which also suck .

but thank you all for being supportive x

I will keep you all updated but have had a bit of cramping tonight , nothing to severe . Not going to put my hopes up but pray again for my 🌈 child ❤️xxx

If you’re hcg is indicative of a loss they won’t give you progesterone. Ask about how you’ll get it next time or speak to your gp. You could always ask for a referral to fertility specialist or a reoccurring miscarriage clinic if the hospital have one. I’m sorry for all your losses xx
