MMC medical management

Hi, I found out last week just before 12 weeks I’d had a mmc, baby was measuring 8w 2days. I had slight spotting for a few days but it didn’t seem to be progressing so opted for medical management on Thursday. Thursday afternoon/evening I had painful cramps and the bleeding increased - though i wouldn’t describe it as heavy. I don’t feel that I passed any significant clots or tissue and by today (Saturday) I’m back to only very slight spotting. I called the EPU this morning to ask if this was normal and the lady I spoke to seemed to think it is, and said the nurse would only call me back if she was concerned. I’ve not heard anything. I understand bleeding can vary from person to person, but is it possible that I wouldn’t notice I’ve passed anything resembling tissue etc? Worried it may not have worked. Thanks!

So sorry for your loss. I had medical management in May and noticed passing the the baby and also the clots but I didn’t notice passing the placenta in hospital. I bled for another 3 weeks and then passed some tissue and the bleeding stopped. You definitely notice the difference between the tissue and clots I think.

You could always book a private scan? It might reassure you if it looks like the pregnancy has passed and also arm you with information if it hasn't.
Sorry you are going through this.

Unfortunately it may not have done, during my first MMC I took the pills and a few hours later they actually came back out when I wiped...not ideal. So I had them again and this time I had massive bleed to the point I had to call an ambulance, they took me in and manually removed a lot of the tissue (without offering me pain relief I might add 😬😬) I passed some huge clots, one literally the size of a tennis ball, but they said after that my cervix was now closed so should be fine. Unfortunately not the case, went for a scan and was still product there so had to take the pills again. This time I went for a really long bouncy walk and that seem to dislodge the rest. I finally tested negative the week after. The whole process took months. I had another MMC a few months later and told them immediately I would be having a D&C, that was all fine and I wish I'd have just done it with the first. I know plenty of people who went through a very simple medical management but it just wasn't the case for me.

You need to have a scan to see if there's anything left - insist on this. You could still opt to have a d&c if there is still product to pass.

I'm so sorry op. I know exactly how much of a dark time this is and I just wanted it over asap so I could move on. Be firm with your EPU. Sending hugs

Thank you for your replies. I called the EPU again and they’ve booked me in for a scan. At least I’ll know either way, the thought of waiting 3 weeks and doing a pregnancy test was unbearable.

@Winnipeggy @KatieJ345 Just to say thanks again for sharing your experiences, it really helped me. Sorry you’ve been through it too. Scan confirmed everything was still there for me, was in for surgical management yesterday. Hoping I can start to move on now
