Hi all,

I’m really hoping someone can provide me some guidance or share how things have gone for them if they have ever been in a similar situ.

On 21 Aug I found out I had had a missed miscarriage, I was about 8.5 weeks but the baby had stopped growing at 7 (despite us seeing a heartbeat at an earlier scan).

I have a history of ashermans so I was told to go for medical rather than surgical management, which I took on 24th Aug. I didn’t have a great experience with the medical management and ended up with around 2cm of retained tissue and was schedule for surgery to remove it.

before the surgery I was showing a faint (but obvious faint) positive line on pregnancy tests, so I thought HCG would come down very quickly post surgery and I would soon be back to normal cycles.

I’m now just under a week since having the surgery and the pregnancy tests still look identical - a faint but obvious line.

I’m really worried that there is still something else going on - I know it can take a while for hcg to come down, but given that it already seemed to be quite low before the surgery I was hoping for things to be a bit quicker.

I feel like I’m stuck in an endless cycle of trying to get back to normal cycles and there doesn’t seem to be anything that talks about how long before cycles return to normal after rpoc surgery. Most stuff suggests 4-6 weeks post miscarriage starting they have their first period, but I am already 5 weeks down and still testing positive 😫

Thanks in advance for anyone who can share their experiences or guidance.

Hi Pheebs, I’m really sorry you are going through this, sending love. I’ve been through something similar - Missed miscarriage found at 12 week scan. Went for medical management which failed so had d&c surgery a few days after. Done a test 3 weeks after surgery as the hospital instructed and I was still testing positive. Phoned EPU for advice - they told me to wait another week and test again using a cheaper pregnancy test instead of clear blue - I was still testing positive a week later. I then got bloods taken to check HCG levels which came back quite high so they arranged a scan which unfortunately showed retained tissue. They advised that the tissue should just eventually pass naturally and was nothing to worry about unless I started getting pain / signs of infection to contact them. It didn’t really sit right with me the tissue just being left there, but I went home and patiently waited hoping it would pass, 3 weeks later still nothing and I was still testing positive. I was then showing signs of infection one morning (foul smelling urine & pain in abdomen), went straight to EPU bloods showed HCG had only came down slightly from the first test 4 weeks prior. I had to have another emergency d&c surgery to remove which was done under ultrasound to ensure everything was removed. I just felt in limbo the full time and felt like I just couldn’t heal / move forward it was all I could think about. My advice would be to test again using a cheaper test, if still positive I would ask to be scanned again to find out where you stand. Hopefully it’s a better outcome for you and your levels are just taking a little longer to return to normal. Sending love, take care x

Thanks so much for the response @Laur23 - so sorry to hear you have had such a challenging time too. It feels so cruel to go through the miscarriage and then the pain of things not even being straight forward afterwards. It’s really hard to not compare yourself to others - so many seem to say they are back into cycles only a few weeks later.

yes I will give it another week and then see how I am and what the tests say… thanks for the advice :)

I am really hoping to try again soon and have a smooth journey from here. Hope things are good for you too xx

@Pheebs1507 hey did you pass this naturally x

Hey @Hipww - unfortunately not, no. I ended up having to have the surgical removal. It was only a small piece remaining but needed to be removed. I had it removed and then about 3 weeks later finally got a negative test - unfortunately it was quite a long road for me.. on the positive side I had a period about 6 weeks after the surgery and then the next cycle I got pregnant again. Now coming up to 9 weeks and praying everything works out. I hope all goes ok for
you xx

@Pheebs1507 mine had blood supply to it I think I passed it at home recently with 2 big bleeds, hcg was 7 over month ago and negative pregnancy test for over a month now too! Finally everything is normal

@Pheebs1507 was you put to sleep for it?
