Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

3 weeks after MMC and MVA

Bali200 · 03/09/2023 09:48

Hi all,

I had a MMC on the 11th August, baby had stopped growing at 8+3. I had an MVA on the 14th August and only had a heavy bleed for a couple of days. But I’m now three weeks on (as of tomorrow) and still having brown discharge.

It’s a normal amount of discharge but is a brown colour.

Days 12-14 I was also experiencing a discomfort feeling, I think this may have been my uterus contracting back down.

I’ve had a negative test, it’s really getting me down to still have physical symptoms as it’s a constant reminder of what happened.

Is it normal to still have brown discharge 3 weeks later? X

Hi @Bali200 sounds very similar to my situation, except three weeks later I had no discharge but a positive test. I would phone the epu and see what their advice is, they may say it’s expected but worth it for peace of mind 😊

Bali200 · 08/09/2023 17:10

Hi @ginny93 thank you for your reply. How long ago did you have your MVA? I rang EPU and they told me it is normal and that it should stop with my next period x

My Mva was 5 weeks ago. I had bleeding for 2 weeks, then ovulated about 10 days after that (based on BBT) and had a normal length luteal phase. I’m now on CD2 of a new cycle. I think it’s normal for your period to be delayed (if you count the day of the Mva as CD1)- mine came about a week later than a regular cycle, but I think 2 weeks late is pretty common. It’s good that the epu said it’s normal, and that you’ve got a negative test- sounds like it’s all going in the right direction. Have you been tracking bbt at all?

Bali200 · 09/09/2023 13:05

Ok that’s very helpful thank you! Yes I’ve been tracking bbt in Natural Cycles which says I ovulated on the 2nd September, which was 20 days after my MVA, but I was using LH strips (for the first time) and they didn’t pick up ovulation so I’m confused as to whether I did actually ovulate or not! Would just like AF to come now so I can start getting my cycle on track. Do you use LH strips as well as tracking bbt?

OP posts:
ginny93 · 09/09/2023 21:35

No I haven’t used LH strips- I was actually going to try last cycle but figured I’d wait until I got a negative test, which I never did! I need to test again in a few days, think I’ll wait until AF has gone. I reckon the LH levels could be a bit wacky tbh, if your temp tracking was pretty good and your luteal phase is normally consistent then I’d say you can probably expect AF a normal amount of time post ovulation 😊

Bali200 · 11/09/2023 10:47

Yes I don’t think I’m going to use the strips either, I’m more comfortable with tracking bbt on NC and I also don’t want to become too obsessive over TTC after my MMC. Are you going to TTC this cycle if your test is negative? Can I please ask if your first period after your MVA was normal? I think mine is starting but it’s very very light. I did have light periods beforehand but I would have expected this first one to be a bit heavier.

OP posts:
ginny93 · 11/09/2023 16:30

Yeah, I guess we actually TTC last cycle but it seems like it was never going to work with a positive test. Going to try this cycle though! My period was pretty normal for me, I think it maybe started a bit slower and was a bit heavier than normal, but not much different . It does seem to have been 2 days shorter than usual which is weird though, and my temps are back above the cover line, so I honestly have no idea what’s going on! I’m going to take another PT tomorrow anyway and hope it’s just everything settling down

Bali200 · 12/09/2023 20:46

How did you go on with your PT today @ginny93? Hoping it was negative so that you can start afresh. It’s awful isn’t it not knowing what’s going on with your body. How are you coping emotionally? X

OP posts:
ginny93 · 13/09/2023 06:47

I think it was a negative - possibly the tiniest shadow of a line but think I might be seeing things! I'll do another one on Friday just to make sure but hopefully it's all good!

I'm ok - had a couple of bad moments over the weekend but I'm putting that down to hormones, feeling a lot better about everything these past few days :)

How are you getting on? Is your luteal phase normally a regular length - when are you expecting AF to show?

Bali200 · 14/09/2023 19:32

That’s great news, I’m so pleased for you! I was the same thinking I could see a faint line when I did mine but I think I was imagining it. I’m glad you’re feeling better about things.

I’m doing ok about 90% of the time then every now and again I have a wobble when I’m alone. I found an Instagram account called the worst girl gang ever and I bought their book which has helped, and I listen to their podcasts. It’s just nice to feel like you’re not alone and that the feelings are normal. I’m very anxious about it happening again though :( was this your first pregnancy?

We’ve also booked to go abroad on Sunday for 4 nights which will be a nice break hopefully.

I’ve already had AF, it was only 2 days long and light like it was pre-MC, I’m on CD4 now. I tend to ovulate on CD18 so I have a short luteal phase which is also stressing me out as I’ve read it can be harder to get pregnant! X

OP posts:
ginny93 · 14/09/2023 20:29

Oh that sounds like a great recommendation, thanks. Interesting that your AF was also short - I wonder if that's pretty standard after an MVA?

Yeah a break will be really nice - we were just away overnight and it was really nice to have a bit of a change!

I know what you mean about being anxious, but I'm determined to not let the anxiety ruin what's meant to be a happy time. I'm just going to roll with it and assume that everything will be fine next time, otherwise I think it will be too tough. It was my first pregnancy so no reason to think that the next one will end in MC - something like 80-90% pregnancies don't :)

I'm just annoyed (/upset at times) that this cycle probably isn't going to work out for us because we'll be in separate countries for the whole FW - hoping my app is a few days out!

I think providing your luteal phase is 10+ days there isn't much evidence about it having an effect?

Bali200 · 15/09/2023 10:24

That’s such a great attitude to have, I think I need to take a leaf out of your book :)

I think since I found out my chances of a MMC after seeing a healthy heartbeat at an 8 week scan was only 1%, I feel super unlucky and anxious about it happening again but I definitely need to start thinking more positively and I’m looking forward to getting away for sure :)

My luteal phase is on average 9 days since coming off the pill in February but when I fell pregnant I wasn’t ttc, I was trying to avoid pregnancy due to starting a new job. We only dtd one time during my FW and fell pregnant, so I’m hoping my short luteal phase won’t be an issue.

That’s such a shame about potentially missing your FW, when is it saying your FW will be?

Hopefully the app is out by a day or two, I have been using two app’s since my MVA and they are both telling me I’m going to ovulate on different days so it’s possible it could be out, especially if our cycles are still a little bit irregular after. Which app are you using?

I was really surprised that my first AF after the MVA was normal for me in terms of heaviness and length, I would have expected a heavier one.

OP posts:
ginny93 · 16/09/2023 13:39

Yeah, I mean it’s definitely not how statistics work, but I like to think if you were in that unfortunate 1% you now have 99 times when it will be fine šŸ˜‚

Oh that sounds good about your luteal phase, yeah I think knowing we can get pregnant for sure is a nice starting point too šŸ˜‚

I use natural cycles, which I think has been pretty accurate, but tbh I haven’t actually compared where it predicts ovulation early in the cycle vs if/how much it adjusts by after ovulation. Here’s hoping I actually ovulate a couple of days late (or super early)! Currently predicting a Saturday ovulation, which is the first day we’ll be in the same country, so still a small chance providing it doesn’t happen early!

What apps do you use?

Bali200 · 16/09/2023 23:42

Haha I love that šŸ˜‚ I hope so! I’m definitely starting to feel more hopeful which is good, I would just like my FW to hurry up and arrive now! I’ve asked my boyfriend to take a couple of days off work around ovulation as he works long shifts and we’re usually like ships in the night.

Got my fingers crossed for you that you can catch this ovulation! I’ve been using natural cycles also, I started using it when I came off the mini pill in January but my cycles were irregular to begin with, which is skewing my cycle insights on the app.

The cycle we fell pregnant (May last period) it said I wasn’t going to ovulate for 5 days, we dtd then the next morning it said I had ovulated. I have started using the pre-mom app as well since my mc, as I bought their LH strips.

This says I’m going to ovulate earlier than natural cycles does however I believe NC more as it has more historical data saved, but it will be interesting to see which is correct. They both tracked my ovulation correctly this time.

I’ll report back with my findings šŸ˜‚ x

OP posts:
Bali200 · 20/09/2023 13:04

Hey @ginny93 how are you getting on? I’m CD10 today and I’ve been spotting brown blood since CD7 so not sure what’s going on :(

Pre-mom says I’ve entered my FW today and will ovulate on CD15 but NC says CD18. I don’t have high hopes for this cycle based on the spotting but we shall see. I didn’t bring the LH strips away with me but may test when I get home on Friday.

Are you still on track to ovulate on Saturday? X

OP posts:
ginny93 · 20/09/2023 22:07

Oh no, that’s odd about the spotting- is that something you’ve had before? I’m doing ok, app is still predicting Saturday but I’m trying to will little eggy to stay put a little longer haha. I’ve never done LH strips - I think I’m fed up of POAS after endlessly trying to get a negative after the MC!

Bali200 · 21/09/2023 07:57

No I’ve never experienced spotting before but dr google is telling me it could be due to a hormone imbalance and lack of oestrogen so it makes sense it’s related to the mc I guess? I’m hoping it sorts itself out during this next cycle but it’s just so frustrating not to know what’s going on with your body.

Oh that’s good you’re still on track, but hope they stay put for a couple more days for you! Were your cycles regular pre-pregnancy?

OP posts:
ginny93 · 21/09/2023 20:51

Oh that’s interesting, yeah hopefully it will just take this cycle to level out then you’ll be good to go! Yeah I have always been super regular - pretty much always the day natural cycles predicted so I’m not sure whether anything will change now. I think AF maybe came one day earlier than NC predicted last cycle, but my temp measuring around ovulation was pretty messed up so that’s probably user error šŸ˜…

Bali200 · 22/09/2023 10:15

Yeah I hope so! Dr google is also throwing up the suggestion of peri-menopause but the logical part of my brain is saying the hormonal imbalance makes most sense as I’m only 33 šŸ˜‚

I’ve decided if I don’t catch this cycle then I’m going to try a more relaxed approach and try to get my cycles sorted out the next couple of months. I’m being too obsessive already, it’s only 10am and I’ve already POAS twice today testing LH which are both totally negative šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚ and DP thinks it’s Christmas with all the BD’ing as pre-mom suggests I’m in my FW.

I really don’t think it’s going to happen for me this month but I really hope you get your BFP šŸ¤žšŸ¼it’s really good that you have super-regular cycles, how long did it take you to conceive with your loss if you don’t mind me asking? X

OP posts:
ginny93 · 22/09/2023 22:04

šŸ˜‚ yeah my DH has been enjoying FWs too! I honestly think that tracking everything makes you more stressed and less likely to conceive - I tracked BBT for years before TTC so that hasn’t been anything extra for me, but I think the pressure of LH as well is just a lot! It means it’s even more on your mind all the time than it would be anyway.

Ooh yes dr google can jump to really bad case scenarios haha, I’m sure it’s just everything getting back to normal 😊

It was our 3rd cycle of trying (although they weren’t consecutive- we had 2 cycles in the middle of actively preventing because of other stuff that was going on).

I’m really hoping for no temp rise tomorrow morning, because that means I’m still in with a bit of a chance this month, but with travelling and time zone changes my temps have been a little off so I think there will be a bit of guesswork this cycle!

Bali200 · 23/09/2023 20:35

Yeah I think I’m just going to stick with the BBT from next cycle tbh, the strips are making me crazy but I’m only sticking with it this time due to the apps telling me different ov dates and I want to see which is correct, but I’m definitely going to try and relax next cycle and just think it’ll happen when it’s meant to happen.

I hope you’re not too tired from travelling, sending lots of baby dust to you ✨

OP posts:
Bali200 · 29/09/2023 16:42

Hey @ginny93 how are you getting on? My bbt hasn’t been normal around ovulation this time and I had horrendous ovulation symptoms so I don’t have much hope for this cycle as I think my body is still recovering. Hope you’re doing ok? How many dpo are you and did you manage to catch your FW? X

OP posts:
ginny93 · 09/10/2023 09:52

Hey! Decided to take a little break from MN - I think it’s worse than social media sometimes! I guess we did catch the FW because I got a bfp this weekend 😊 oh that sounds pretty rough, sorry for you but hopefully it’s just your body resetting everything for a good cycle next time around xx

Bali200 · 19/10/2023 16:57

Hey sorry I also had a break from MN, it was definitely needed!

Oh my gosh, that’s amazing news, so pleased for you! How are you feeling?

I’m back in my FW and awaiting results from my full blood count at the GP’s earlier this week. Just hoping everything comes back normal and that my bfp won’t be too far off šŸ¤žšŸ¼ xx

OP posts:
ginny93 · 20/10/2023 22:48

Thank you! I’m mainly feeling good, with periods of anxiety which is to be expected I guess. Just trying to stay positive! The only symptom to speak of is major bloating - I look very pregnant already šŸ˜‚

Ah FW is definitely the best part of the month, full of excitement and anticipation before the endless TWW!

Keeping my fingers crossed for your FBC, hoping this is your month xx
