Period after miscarriage - but still positive test

Wondering if anyone has any advice.

On 20/21 July I started spotting, a week later it turned into normal period miscarriage. On 4 August (3 weeks 1 day ago) the bleeding suddenly dangerously heavy and I had emergency surgery same day to remove the pregnancy tissue. (Fainted numerous times in A&E, needed a blood transfusion, horrible day).

The advice was to wait 3 weeks to take a pregnancy test. At 2 weeks 6 days (Thursday) the test was showing extremely faint positive. Barely there, but enough that someone who was TTC might get excited . I’m away this weekend and thought I would just wait until I get back to take a new test.

Woke up this morning and I’m bleeding and cramping, with what seems like a normal period.

It’s only 3 weeks since the surgery, but it’s 5 since I started spotting for the miscarriage.

The advice is that a normal period will come back 4-6 weeks after miscarriage. But is that from when the bleeding starts or from when the bleeding stops? If it’s a normal period, why am I still showing a tiny faint positive? I stopped bleeding properly about 4 days after the surgery.

So confused and want this all to be over so we can try again.

So sorry for your loss :( my advice would be to wait until the bleed has finished then take another test and see if it's negative. Your body can start a period pretty quickly if the vast majority of HCG is out of your system. It too 4 1/2 weeks post surgery for me to get my period, I had a negative test at around 3 weeks post surgery.

Hey, what was the outcome? I’m going through something very similar. Started bleeding 29/8 fully miscarried and passed the sac by 10/9, did a pregnancy test 3 weeks later and still positive. Went in for another scan last week 3/10 which confirmed no tissue remaining but still testing positive. Period then arrived 5/10 and finished after a few days but my periods are usually only 3-4 days. Did a pregnancy test again today as advised by EPU and it’s saying pregnant still! But I’ve had a period so I’m confused! Desperate to try again but can I?!
