Hi all, I had an early reassurance scan at 7+2w yesterday and unfortunately I'm measuring at 6 weeks. Trying to not cling onto false hope, I am rescanning in 10 days but as I am certain on dates of conception I assume this is going to end in miscarriage.

What are the next steps? I really don't want to wait around for it to pass naturally, is there any way of getting hold of the medicine to encourage a complete miscarriage asap once it's confirmed? From a look through resources online I'm not clear on what the process should be and who i should talk to.

Thanks in advance 💔

Just to add my symptoms have pretty much disappeared but I'm not having cramping or bleeding

Where was your scan? You should check in with your EPU because quite often they don’t take private scans as a starting point and you’ll need two scans with them to confirm a miscarriage and for treatment of you don’t start bleeding before then.

Ok, thank you. It was a private scan so I'll try to speak to EPU. I'm not sure the services around me have really picked up again since Covid...

Unfortunately that’s where you need to go for scanning and treatment so hopefully you’ll find that they have. I’m sorry you’re going through this 🤗

Thank you Flowers

IF you are having a miscarriage then the EPU will explain your options which will most likely be.

  1. expectant (wait ) - which you don't want
  2. medical- oral and pessary medication to bring on the miscarriage
  3. surgical - under general or local anaesthetic.

Lots of previous threads on this board where posters have given their experiences of each. No right or wrong answer, the staff may make specific recommendations dependent on your case.

Good luck.

I’m so sorry for your situation you find yourself in. Unfortunately I’m going through this for the second time and have dealt with the EPU on three occasions. I would encourage you to ring different EPUs in your area. I haven’t been able to get into mine with ease this week luckily I tried a slightly further afield hospital who are seeing me tomorrow. It’s awful having to wait in these scenarios so I feel for you. But do what you can do to call round and get an appointment.

Hi @househunting123. I'm so sorry you're going through this. I had a scan at the fertility clinic today at 7+5 and had the same news. I'm to to back next Thursday for a confirmation scan before being referred to EPU.
Obviously can't offer any advice but just a bit of support from someone going through the same thing right now.

Ems123456789 · 24/08/2023 20:40

Thank you @househunting123 and sorry to hear others on here like @Olivia199 going through similar.

its shit!

I was hoping that I may be able to get referred to recurrent miscarriage clinic as I’ve now had 3 losses (all IVF) but one of my losses (first one) was ectopic and apparently this doesn’t count as a miscarriage (even though it’s a loss) so I can’t be referred. ☹️

Oh @Ems123456789 I'm so sorry, thats absolutely ridiculous and not the kind of hair splitting you need at a time like this.
