Just looking for advice, had a period like bleed on and off at time period was due, also experienced some stomach cramps and was sick one evening which I thought was due to eating something bad. Have been testing for the past week and getting strong bfp every day since bleeding stopped. Still getting some slight brown discharge every so often. Haven’t contacted gp yet, will be 6 weeks tomorrow. Should I assume the worst or is there any hope?

Hi there. I'm sorry you have this stress. I've seen posts where people have experienced bleeding but actually the pregnancy has been fine (so could be either outcome). Likewise there are people (including myself) with no bleeding who have suffered a missed miscarriage (again could be either outcome). Ultimately you aren't going to know without a scan, so you should contact your early pregnancy unit.

Wishing you the best of luck.

I’m sorry you’ve experienced a miscarriage, even worse as I’m sure you assumed everything was ok if no bleeding. I’m very lucky I have a little boy so if it’s not meant to be I’m very lucky I have him. I think it’s the darkening line on the pregnancy test which is throwing me even though I know deep down that bleeding like a normal period along with the stomach cramps is a bad sign and from what I’ve read, the bfp can lasts weeks. I don’t have any pregnancy symptoms but I didn’t with my son. I will ring the EPU tomorrow and see what they suggest, the waiting game is horrible!! I’m still breastfeeding my son so I thought maybe that can cause bleeding but who knows.

If you've had bleeding that was a miscarriage usually HCG has declined by then so you'd expect to see lighter test lines if that was the case. Keeping everything crossed for you that all is ok x

Thank you for your kind words. I went to the EPU, they did an external ultrasound and said nothing there, I would be 6 weeks today. They said no need to do a trans vaginal as v clear. They also did a pregnancy test and it was negative even though I’d done two tests (two different brands) an hour before and they were strong positives. They have done a blood test but it’s all so confusing! I’m expecting the worst but strange to get a negative hcg test after 2 positives.
