Hi all

I had my coil removed on 22 May this year as bf & I wanted to try for baby #2.

I had my first period around the last week of June and it was quite heavy from what I remember. This was followed with some spotting every couple of days. I presumed this was just my body getting back to normal since having the coil out.

On the 20th July, despite on and off spotting, I had some abdominal pain so decided to take a test and to my surprise it was positive. Wasnt really expecting it tbh. I was still bleeding every day after this- not too heavy but still had a bad feeling so contacted EPU and on Monday of last week I went and got checked over.

hcg levels were 190
2 days later (Wed) hcg levels were down to 105
2 days later (Fri) hcg levels were up 107

i was advised this was an ectopic pregnancy and to come in for a scan the following monday (today). I wasn’t feeling too great on Sunday so went to a&e and had my bloods taken again and my hcg levels had gone up from 107 to 155 ?!!

i went for a scan today, there was a small sign of sac & it was in the right place apparently but they said the shape wasnt as round as they would of expected, but said this could be due to being very early on…

during my scan, there was a small cyst found on my right ovary and also fluid in my ovary which they were concerned about. Apparently this is linked to ectopic pregnancy?? But im confused because they said they could see the sac in the right place so would tht not confirm its not an ectopic??

the dr was given me the options for an ectopic pregnancy eg wait & see how it progresses, get the jag or potentially surgery but I was shocked as noone had confirmed this was the case and my pregnancy wasnt viable. they just advised there was alot of grey areas because it could be I was really early on

i did have some clots this morning for the first time, before my scan, which really worried me.

any advice or any similar experiences? I really dont know whats going on with my body and just want some answers :(

i am going in this wednesday to have my hCG checked again and going for another scan in a week..

Thanks x x

Hi,

Just wondering how you got on? I've just had a similar experience where they ended up sending me for surgery to remove my tube etc. Woke up to find it hadn't been ectopic after all and pregnancy was in the right place so they hadn't had to take anything away.

Just worried now about how the surgery will have affected my pregnancy.

Hope you got on okay.

X

Hey! This was my original post but I cant remember how I created account had to make a new one lol!

omg really?? So are you now being told your pregnancy is fine and going ahead?!

I have been at the hospital for 3 weeks getting bloods and internal scans. I had an internal scan 2 weeks ago and they said I had fluid in my ovaries which they were worried about and dr was giving me the option to either wait and ride it out see what happens or to get the jag which basically stops the cells growing/basically terminates the “ectopic” pregnancy. I decided to just wait and see how I got on as my HcG levels were still rising slightly. I went back a week later (on Monday this week) for another internal scan and was told they couldnt see any signs of a pregnancy so looks like an early miscarriage. When I went back to EPU to be advised what to do next, the doctor appeared and wasn’t concerned about this and said I should come back in another week (to go back on Monday) for another scan because it could be too early to see anything. I am soo confused. I stopped bleeding last Thursday but I have started spotting again. Really have no idea whats going on, I guess it is just too early to say for definite but I reckon if Mondays scan shows nothing it definitely isnt a viable pregnancy. Feel like I have just been left in limbo as they didnt take my bloods again this week so I have no idea what my HcG levels are at now.

why did they recommend surgery for you?? Did a scan suggest you had something in your tubes?? Whats the next steps for you and how far along are you?

sending love hope everything works out for you - its so stressful especially being told different things from different people xxx

Hi,

I've got no idea really what is happening now feeling in limbo just like you!
My last period was the first week of July so recon I would be about 5 weeks.
I had pain in my left side went for a scan at EPU and they told me they couldn't see pregnancy in my womb but they weren't concerned because its normal at that stage. They could see a slight budget in my Overy but they said ectopic pregnancy don't normally happen in the overy so they weren't concerned. Then the consultant at gynecology decided she wanted to scan me. I felt she wrote my pregnancy off straight away because before even scanning me she said it was either ectopic or a miscarriage which I thought was strange.

When she scanned me she said she could see fluid in my overys and this she felt was the deciding factor that it definitely must be ectopic and I had to go for surgery straight away! I was getting ready for surgery and they came and said my bloods had come back and didn't match an ectopic pregnancy So they wanted to wait and rescan me in 6 hours. When the scanned me 6 hours later they said nothing had really changed and kept me in over night. The next morning my blood count had dropped so she said something was definitely bleeding and I definitely needed the surgery. I asked if there could be any other reason for my blood count to drop and she said definitely not.

I went for surgery and when I came round they said that there was no ectopic pregnancy just a bit of yellow fluid which would normally indicate an infection but there was no infection she could see.

She said that my blood count maybe dropped due to being more hydrated.
They've also now said that they could maybe see a sac but it's not as white as they would expect so can't say if it's going to be a viable pregnancy and if I have a miscarriage it's not because of the operation.

I'm now left for two weeks to just sit and wait before they rescan me to see if I'm going to have a baby or not! So stressful.

Sorry your going through a similar thing. I'm glad you've decided to ride it out I'd hate to think how many people maybe haven't and its not actually been ectopic.
It's strange they panicked so much with me that they wouldn't even let me go to the canteen but they've sent you home in limbo xxx

Hey!

I can’t believe how similar our situation is!! In my first internal scan where they saw the fluid, they did see a small sac in the correct place but said the shape looked off. It confused me how the dr was then afterwards given me the options for ectopic pregnancy (jag/surgery) but when I questioned this at another app they said because it was so so small they couldnt say for sure it was a gestation sac! Then a week later, they said they couldn’t see anything at all suggesting early miscarriage.

The dr said surgery would be last option so it was never really something that was discussed. I live 5-10mins most from the hospital so doctor said she was fine for me to ride it out and if any severe changes I wouldn’t be far away but she did say if I lived somewhere really far they would encourage me to get the jag.

My bloods after seeing the fluid suggested it wasn’t anything serious as there were no major changes in whatever they we’re comparing in my bloods, she said the scans arent advanced enough to determine if its blood or water and it could be just a cyst that has burst!

Your post has gave me some hope as I really had just accepted it wasn’t going ahead after all the ups and downs over the past few weeks. Good luck I hope everything goes well- would love to hear how you get on!! Take care xx

Hi,

Did you have a scan on Monday? Wondering how you got on?

Everything crossed for you xx

girlmama55 · 24/08/2023 15:05

Hi, hope your well.

Sorry for the delay, only just seeing the email now. Yeah I had my scan, sadly there was no sign of a pregnancy and my HcG levels had dropped to 28. I was advised to take a test in 3 weeks and it should be negative.

Hope your getting on ok xx

Similar with HCG readings that stayed around the 100 mark?

I’m sorry you’re going through this, HCG will do funny things with ectopic pregnancies but those results definitely don’t indicate a viable pregnancy. They need to be doubling daily x
