TTC after miscarriage -when would I ovulate

Hello all. Hope someone can help me. I had a miscarriage recently (bleeding and cramps started exactly 4 weeks ago today and then miscarriage confirmed almost a week after this). I was very early on in the pregnancy and despite getting positive preg tests, when scanned by EPU my uterus was empty at exactly when I should have been 6 weeks so I didn't need any intervention, just blood tests to confirm I'd had a complete miscarriage. I was told at the time that my period would start 3 weeks later and then I could start TTC after this.

So I took a test at the 3 week mark earlier this week which was negative but there is no sign of a period. I am 40 and anxious to start TTC again, especially as I have heard that we are very fertile after miscarriage. I just don't want to miss that window given my period could take a while to start. So I have decided not to wait for my period to return at all and to just start TTC as normal. My question is....when would I even need to start tracking ovulation? Now? When it's so close to the date when I'm supposed to have a period?
The reason I have to track ovulation and can't just randomly start TTC is because DH and I aren't very active in the bedroom (which we are both fine with) so need to know the best time to try. Thanks!

So sorry for your loss, ive just gone through very similar and like you did not want to wait until my period to start ttc again. I started testing for ovulation the day after i stopped bleeding and appear to have ovulated about 26 day after start of bleeding. I bled for around 3 weeks following loss at 11 weeks, baby measuring 7+4. I think everyone can be different but thought i would let you know my experience. Best of luck for trying agaij💕

@Whoisdis - thank you so much for replying. This is really helpful. I'm so sorry for your loss too, i hope you're feeling ok and that TTC goes well. Xx

I think waiting to TTC again would be a frustrating and this experience has just made me more determined to try again

@Treehouz doctor who saw me did suggest waiting until after first period, but was more for dating. Everything else I read just states unless medical reasoning there's no reason to delay, miscarriage bleeding has surely reset the body? I was scanned the day of miscarriage and they confirmed it was just lining left which was reduced so going the right way, and negative pregnancy tests since.

Thank you 💕 our loss was beginning of July so not massively hopeful for this cycle but would be amazing. I feel another pregnancy is what would help me heal🤞

Good luck for you also! Xx

I’m so sorry for your loss.

everything can go a bit haywire post-pregnancy. Some people’s cycles resume like clockwork, some take a while to get back to normal entirely.

In this post-loss period, you not be able to plan for ovulation at all- without monitoring cervical mucus and BBT temping. Is this something you have been doing? or are open to? It won’t be as clear cut as aiming for cycle day 14.

remember periods follow ovulation- so you should ovulate before having a period anyway, and so the cycles begin.

is there any medical or situational reason as to why you aren’t particularly ‘active’? I know you are both happy with this, but given the fact that things may be unpredictable at the moment- having some swimmers there and staying ‘topped up’ might benefit your chances.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage a month ago, I had nearly a week of heavier bleeding and then another few days of light spotting. I took a pregnancy test about a week after the miscarriage and it was still positive (I expected it to, I was just curious).

I took another test about a week later (2 weeks after the miscarriage - at this point the light spotting had stopped) and it was negative. I took an ovulation test afterwards as I'd read that you could start ovulating as soon as 2 weeks after, and it was negative.

The next day I took another ovulation test and it was showing as 'high fertility' (not peak yet), so it had already started detecting a surge in LH. I've been testing everyday since and it's still showing as high fertility (I probably started testing too early), but the last couple of days the 2nd line on the test has been significantly bolder).

This is just what's been happening to me so far, if you can afford the ovulation tests it might be an idea to check after you've had a negative pregnancy test, although it's also a good idea to read the instructions on the test as I think I started testing too early and been getting lots of high fertility tests.
