7 weeks pregnant bleeding and low hCG

Apologies for the long story…..I had my first positive pregnancy test on 5th July. My last period start date was 29th May so this made me 5 weeks and 2 days at the time of first positive test. However, I also did a Clear Blue digital test and it came out as 1-2 weeks (adjusted to 3-4 weeks since start of period) which is obviously less than expected but I’ve heard they can be a bit unreliable.

Ten days later on 15th July, just as we were heading out for our first wedding anniversary meal, I noticed some very light pink/brown watery discharge when I wiped and this continued throughout the evening. Overnight and the next morning (Sunday 16th) it had seemingly stopped, but when I got back from walking the dog it had started again and got heavier throughout the day so I started wearing a pad. Feeling upset, I phoned the midwife and she made me an appointment at the Early Pregnancy Unit for three days’ time on the 19th (last Wednesday). By Monday (17th), the discharge was starting to get more pink/red and by Tuesday (18th) it was heavier again and fresh blood, but less than I would have during a period. I tried to get an earlier appointment at the EPU but they had none, the lady told me to do another pregnancy test as it had been almost 2 weeks since my first and this was positive. On Tuesday afternoon I was feeling dizzy and cramping so I went to bed and woke up feeling very uncomfortable. I live 40 mins from A&E so we decided to go there to get checked out as it was getting worse. They examined me and said my womb was closed and they could see no obvious cause of the bleeding but they could not perform an ultrasound in the evening. My bloods were taken and they said I could go home ahead of my appointment at the EPU the next morning.
When I got to the EPU on Wednesday morning the nurse I saw told me straight away that my hCG level was really low (under 500 and by this point I was due to be 7 weeks and 3 days) and to be prepared that when they do the ultrasound, there will probably won’t be anything there. I had the ultrasound and they could see a sac and the beginnings of a yolk. They could not see a cause of the bleeding. Afterwards I saw the same nurse who said this would be more like what she would expect to see at 4 or 5 weeks so that either I am not as far along as first thought or that things had stopped developing. She said we need to wait and see how things pan out and has booked me in for another scan next Monday (31st) but that because my bloods were so low and I was bleeding, it was highly likely I would miscarry.
It has been a week since I went to the EPU and in the meantime the bleeding continued the same for a few days before tapering off to now being a very small amount of old brown blood/watery brown discharge. I have not passed any clots whatsoever or anything other than blood and my cramping has stopped. I’ve obviously got a few days to wait until my next scan on Monday and I’m almost certain I need to prepare myself for the worst, especially as I am not experiencing sore boobs as I was when I first got my positive test. Has anyone had a similar experience or has any advice? I am just a bit confused why the bleeding seems to have almost stopped.

Hi, I am experiencing the exact same! 2nd scan in a week, and not stopped spotting for a week. Has turned pink this evening... I have a 10yr old, and 2 MMC since. So worried, but convinced this isn't happening either. How are things with you? x

Hi @Liane85 I’m so sorry you’re going through similar and also for your previous losses. I had my second scan a week ago today and unfortunately it showed that I had miscarried. Whatever they could see on the first scan had broken down and been passed. Sending you all the very best wishes for a positive outcome for you

Ah I am so sorry to hear this @Lilac888 , I hope you're dealing with everything as well as you can be. It's so sh*t! I had a scan last week and saw heartbeat, but measuring 5-6 weeks, and should be 8-9! They said my dates must be wrong (they're not!), but would 'cross that bridge' if the smaller size meant something else. Both my other MMC's stopped at 7 weeks, and not spotting has been over a week (I've not had sex, so not trauma), sure it's not implantation bleeding as suggested. It seems to be getting more watery and turning pink. I have another scan next week, but not feeling hopeful. I just don't 'feel' pregnant anymore, and boobs are slightly tender, and nothing like they were a couple of weeks ago. I had symptoms the week of conception, and just knew. So gutted as I can't picture having another one, just keep thinking this is going to happen again. Anyhow, I wish you all the luck for the future, and sending massive hugs!
