Hi I’ve just gone through my 7 miscarriage in 2 years and I really want to try IVf with my own eggs first. I am nearly 41 and just wondering did anyone have success in Spain. I am talking to Ib Spain Alicante next week. Thanks

I am so sorry for your losses. I do not have any success story to share but also looking at IB Alicante for egg donation. How did your consultation go with them? Are you proceeding with them? Good luck with your next steps.

@Serendipity24 How are you getting on with IB? I'm having a bit of a wobble - I've had consultation /sent all tests so didn't need to go to the clinic. I spoke to embryology team re donor selection - the lady was very nice , we spoke specifically about height - in a nutshell she advised she would match donor to a minimum of my height and that finding a donor wouldn't be hard due to my physical characteristics.

Then had follow up with Dr who happily announced they found a donor - when I asked about the height thing that was discussed she basically said I couldn't chose donor etc etc and had no clue about what he colleague advised.

I only asked as I was in Spain last week and felt taller than everyone so just wanted to verify they could look at it.

My coordinator says they don't have a donor yetand is avoiding this subject on our emails

I just feel this is a huge breach of trust and something that is important to me - if they couldn't address it they should have told me in the first place !!

Hi @Countrygrrrl I am sorry to hear about your experience. My experience so far has been good. We were told right from the beginning that we wouldn't be able to pick and choose donor. We filled out the phenotype form, submitted our photos, and opted to have the comprehensive genetic compatibility test. They chose our donor based on these three things. We know nothing about the donor apart from age and blood group which were revealed to us after the fresh transfer (which unfortunately did not work, so now waiting for FET).

Your height is part of your phenotype, so I would think they would consider it when matching a donor, especially if you are quite tall. We didn't have any specific requests, so don't know how they deal with that.

It is possible that they do try to accommodate such requests without explicitly saying so because one could argue that height is an identifying factor. But I agree that if they said they would match your height then they should have.

Can you request a meeting with the same embryology team to clarify things? If you are not happy after that, then unfortunately they are not the right fit for you.

I'm so sorry it didn't work first time for you but I'm sure you are used to the ups and downs of this process by now. Best of luck for the FET

Yes I will have a call again with embryologist- maybe I should ask for a different Dr as TBH she was so dismissive of it I just don't know how a professional can completely renegade on something like that when these things are potentially so sensitive.

If the embryologist hadn't agreed to honour my request, however informally I would've accepted it, I'm hoping she didn't just say that to keep me as a patient and then ignore it.

The reason I chose them was the rigorous donor selection so am reluctant to switch I just need answers!!

Good luck 🤞

Thank you @Countrygrrrl

They do have a rigorous donor selection process. I'm sure changing the doctor is possible. Did you choose the doctor or did they assign her? I asked for a list of doctors in Alicante and picked one based on the reviews etc.

Countrygrrrl · 15/03/2024 11:29

I chose one - didn't really have a lot to go by - when I had my consultation there was only 2 and only one spoke English so I chose her!

Who are you with?

Serendipity24 · 15/03/2024 12:16

@Countrygrrrl only two? I was given a list of six doctors!

List of doctors working at IB Alicante
Ana Fuentes
Begoña Alcaraz
Belen Moliner
Juan Carlos Castillo
Paolo Cirillo
Paula Moral

I'm with Dr Castillo

Countrygrrrl · 15/03/2024 14:37

I have asked to switch Drs and she will contact me with availability
I was due to start my mock cycle but I just had another chemical so apparently I now need another consultation - I did tell the Dr A during my initial consultation that I have a chemical every month more or less. I feel they need to up their game...

Rainbowmum40 · 24/03/2024 14:42

I just finished 3 cycles in Alicante with Dr castillio. I got two embryos from pgt, one euploid and one low level mosiac. I transferred the euploid and it failed to implant so fairly devastated as I had 7 previous miscarriages and I know two were chromosomal so I really thought this was it. I have done all the tests in the word so I really felt this was it.

@Rainbowmum40 That is heartbreaking, I am so sorry to hear that your recent transfer failed. You said you have done all the tests, did they not find anything at all? Did they tweak the cycle based on the test results?

I don't know much about mosaic embryos, but apparently a low level mosaic has success rates close to that of the euploids (according to a quick Google search). Hope your next transfer is successful. Wishing you all the best 🍀

Rainbowmum40 · 24/03/2024 16:04

When we did tests I have low lads which I corrected with lit and I have an infection after Alice and Emma but that cleared. Yeah I’m just worried that if mosaic doesn’t self correct.
