Seemingly endless spotting/light bleeding - 2 months

I miscarried on 13th May at 8w, it was a MMC, baby hadn't made it past 6w. However, since then, I've hardly had any days without at least some bleeding or spotting. It's been two months now - nearly 9 weeks.

I first had a short break in early June where the bleeding seemed to be stopping, but then it started again lightly in mid June and I then had what I think was my first post-MC period (heavy) from 21st June to the 29th or so. Mostly dried up again but then started spotting yet again and now have been bleeding properly from 7th July for a few days (second period?? But seems way too soon). Now spotting again.

I'm so confused and in despair, can't be intimate with DH, can't TTC again as assume I'm not ovulating. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if things eventually sorted themselves out? I had a scan a few days after the MC and they said there were clots there but they didn't think there were retained products. I've also had completely negative pregnancy tests since around 4 weeks post MC. No fever, offensive smells, cramps, nothing. Is doc warranted?

Thanks!

Hi @cirillaofcintra I don’t have an answer for you I’m afraid, but I’d like one! Similar story here, I’ve lost count of how long it’s been but about 10 weeks since medical management, maybe 6 since surgery for RPOC, and I’ve had just two or three days of no bleeding that whole time. I think I had an infection after surgery so am worried that’s back. Would love to know how you get on - and to hear from anyone else with experience/knowledge.

I would say, from my point of view, it warrants seeing the doctor. It’s horrible to deal with. (Especially if you want to TTC again, and as you say it affects your relationship, and even just with the uncertainty about your own body.) I wouldn’t have high expectations of what they’ll do, though - when I ended up in A&E for heavy bleeding a few weeks ago they basically just said wait and see. But you could ask for another scan, and a swab?

Hi guys,

I'm having a very similar situation. Had medical management on 8th July, bled for a longtime and some retained products showed up in a scan. My bleeding stopped for about 5 days- and the rpoc came out followed by my period a few days later on the 22nd June. I am now unsure of whether it really was my first period aswell! I had spotting just like you describe, almost completely gone (maybe even finished for a day or two) and since then its just carried on getting heavier until now its almost what I'd see the first day of period expect alot more bright! are you having cramps at all?

ive been to the dr several times and they gave me antibiotics just to cover infection (although thankfully swab and blood tests appear negative) and ive been on them for over a week and the spotting is getting heavier. They have then said that it is not unexpected, probably just my body regulating back to normal. Im still really worried as haven't had a positive ovulation test yet, but just kind of feel like there's not too much left to do apart from help my body recover, I just cannot wait for my cycles to get back to where I can track them.

Ive seen some other threads where some women are having the same kind of spotting after periods so hopefully its not overly unusual, seeing your doctor is deffo a good idea so you can just to rule out some more worrying causes. but yes it does seem like they dont really have an answer for these things once rpoc and infection are ruled out.

Its so horrible, I hope you both are back to normal soon :)

Sorry to hear you’re struggling with this too @efox33 The emotional side of things is hard enough without the continuing anxiety about what our bodies are doing. It is frustrating that doctors seem to be content to say “it’s normal” but at the same time that they don’t know what it is?! ‘Hormones’ just seems a bit vague - I don’t really understand where the blood is coming from, and why. Hopefully in a week or two we’ll be able to forget all about it… I’ve been using ovulation tests too (for the first time - just want a sense of control in all of this) and haven’t had any high results yet either, so who knows what’s going on in there.

Another sudden heavier bleed for me today - 11 weeks after medical management, 6 weeks after surgical, and only a couple of days of no bleeding in all that time. This is so miserable!

Hi @Oxalis00 and @efox33, sorry for not coming back to this thread until now. Been having a bit of a stressful time with my nearly 2 year old - terrible 2s really kicking in! So sorry to hear you are also dealing with this endless bleeding and spotting. It's so draining and just a constant reminder isn't it?

Well on my side, after all that despair, it seems I am actually ovulating right now. Got an OPK the same darkness as the control line yesterday, and a strong positive today. Confusingly, I am still spotting, both blood-tinged discharge (sorry, TMI) and small bits of red blood. So it seems the recent bout of bleeding has not been my second (very early) period since MC as I'd thought, but rather some sort of mid-cycle/ovulation bleeding, with my next period due in 2 weeks time. Very weird. In any case, DH and I have agreed that we're not squeamish, so we're DTD anyway. 😅

I'll definitely not be pregnancy testing from Xdpo or whatever this time, too nervous, and with my cycles probably still a bit out of order, I won't know when AF is meant to be due anyway, so just going to go with the flow.

How are you both feeling? So sorry @Oxalis00 to hear about the new heavier bleed. At least, it seems we can ovulate while bleeding/spotting (oddly!) from my experience so hopefully things sort themselves out for you very soon or perhaps your cycles are continuing, it's just blood slowly making its way out over time? Keep us updated.

Hi @cirillaofcintra good to hear your update. Fingers crossed for you this cycle! (And also with the 2yo 😅 I have one of those as well, not far off 3yo, though I’m actually loving the twos - I was massively anxious during the baby stage and much prefer things now she can walk and talk. But it all changes!)

Interesting to hear you’re ovulating - though I don’t understand how it all works with the bleeding. I wonder if I might be ovulating soon too - haven’t ever used ovulation tests before but I have done for the last few weeks and have got my highest result so far today. Maybe the hormones involved in ovulation trigger more bleeding in our delicate worn-out wombs?! (Speaking for myself… 😉)

I’m sitting this cycle out as I feel so unsure about the state of my body and just want to see things settle a bit before we TTC again, though I’m finding it hard watching the months go by. Would love to hear how you get on though!
