Missed miscarriage/ medical management experiences

I found out this week I’ve had my 3rd missed miscarriage. This one is the earliest one - 9 weeks by date but only measuring 6weeks. My other two were measuring about 9 weeks so I opted for an MVA for them. This time they suggested I tried medical management to reduce risk of scarring etc. They thought it might be more successful given the size.

I went in yesterday. Had 4 oral tablets at 11am and took 2 more at 5pm as instructed.
I had diarrhoea quickly then nothing until about 4pm had a small gush of fluid, slight pink tinge. Wondered if this could be water from pregnancy sac? Then about 7pm I had some mild cramping. No more than a bad period and passed two clots within an hour or so. One was size of large grape and then next one occurred after small push and disappeared into toilet. Couldn’t see it clearly so not sure if it could have been pregnancy sac or not and I just instinctively flushed the toilet thinking it was another clot. After that cramping continued for 3-4 hours but milder and no more clots really. This morning it’s just like a period.

I’m so concerned about incomplete/ retained products (this happened after MVA and the drawn out process was worse than miscarriage itself). What were other peoples experiences of medical management, does this sound like “enough”. Just trying to mental prepare myself. Is it likely the bleeding will ramp up again?

I think you’ve seen my other thread, but so it’s in one place - it sounds like I had similar to you on day 1. Day 2 I repeated the misoprostol but barely any bleeding. Day 3 and 4 period type bleeding. Day 5 scan found still some retained tissue. Repeated misoprostol again, and again on day 6. Both days tummy felt funny and mild cramps but little bleeding. Day 7 had reasonable amount of bleeding. days 8-11 (today) on and off fairly light bleeding. Can’t be sure but I am hoping it’s all done.

basically I never got a repeat of the amount of bleeding and cramps as day 1, even though I took the tablets 3 more times. I have had on an off bleeding throughout. Some days barely any time, some days like heavy period.

My EPU we’re very good and got me back in for a scan when I asked, and guess that’s all you can do? It really seems to affect people very differently.

Hope you can get some certainty either way - the waiting is truly horrendous xx

Also so sorry this your third time going through this - sending you massive hugs xxx

Thank you for your reply.
it’s interested EPAU repeated it for you as they said they wouldn’t offer me further tablets if it didn’t work. I guess I’ll have to see what they say this week.

Yea they offered it straightaway - the nurse did say it was so small they wouldn’t want to do anything surgical so I guess it was that or just wait and hope, and she was very understanding I just wanted it done

@Carolinaa how are you getting on?

I had a repeat scan 3 weeks after medical management which showed 22mm retained product. I was offered repeat medical management but had no more than spotting (brown - sorry TMI). They said to leave it another 3 weeks but I’ve since had what resembles my typical period. Pregnancy test still very very faintly positive. I’m now feeling very lost as EPAU said I’d be discharged with negative pregnancy test however I don’t think I’ve passed anything at would resemble 22mm clot/ product. Really keen to TTC again but how do I know if retains products have actually resolved!? It’s the uncertainty that’s makes it that much harder isn’t it

@SR00 oh no I’m so sorry to hear that. It is awful how it drags on, and the uncertainty as you say. It might have resolved itself with your period - can you get another scan? I think after all this time the EPU should understand you want to know! They said to me that if the pregnancy test is negative that means all is fine to start trying again. BUT if you know there was retained products and it still isn’t negative I think they should be checking.

my test 3 weeks after was negative so I was relieved about that. I was a bit confused about the bleeding tho. The miscarriage bleeding completely stopped 2 weeks after the last medical management. But the after only 1 week I started bleeding again for another week, quite similar to my period so thought it was that., tho a bit earlier than expected. But then I’ve had on and off spotting since then. So not completely sure.

Totally agree it’s so annoying, this baby would have been due dec 23, but I’m still not sure it’s all sorted and if we try again we’re half way through 24 now at earliest before any baby 😞

4 weeks ago at my 12 week scan we found out there was no heartbeat. Took medical management at home. After inserting 4 tablets vaginally it took half an hour then contraction like pain started then 2 hours later I passed the baby. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to catch it and went straight under the toilet along with the dreadful diarrhoea that comes with it.
i have bled throughout the 4 weeks every single day

@SarahLouise98 sorry to hear about your loss. Your experience since doesn’t sound dissimilar to mine, have you had any follow up, did you get a negative pregnancy test?

I bled for about 2 weeks which was similar to period then another 2 weeks of light bleeding/ spotting which varied day to day. About a week after 2nd medical management I got a fairly typical period (still having weekly positive pregnancy tests at this time), it was slightly longer than normal and lasted about a week. Since then I’ve had blood stained discharge daily. I’ve been discharged from EPAU as pregnancy test finally negative a few days ago. They won’t rescan but I suspect there is still some retained products given the spotting and that pregnancy test was still positive few days after period finished. I asked about TTC and they said in an offhand manner “maybe just wait a few months” in hopes it all resolves with next couple of periods. I frustrated that there’s no follow up to confirm it has resolved before we TTC again though.

Last week it was a squinter of a positive, I have done another 5 minutes ago and totally negative so I’m guessing this is my period now
