Still bleeding after miscarriage

Hi there

Looking for a little advice. I had a confirmed miscarriage after a second scan on 16th May (miscarried at 6 weeks) after I started bleeding on 1st May. They couldn’t confirm on the first scan as they thought I may have got my dates wrong. The bleeding finally stopped just over a week ago which took me to around about a month of bleeding. The scan on 16th May showed I had passed the miscarriage naturally and no tissue was left. Since having the scan I have passed more tissue and yesterday I started to bleed again and passed more tissue.

I just wondered had anyone else experienced this. The doctor said it was too soon to be my period and just monitor the bleeding. The physical symptoms make it harder for me to move forward from. Has anyone else experienced prolonged bleeding? Google is not my friend. Thanks

@Chattygirl22 I'm sorry you are going through this. I know its hard and I hope you have people to talk to and support you.

The doctors have they not taken your blood to look at your HCG (pregnancy hormones) levels? This is a big indicator to help with this. When you lose a pregnancy the HCG drops, usually with the bleeding, then when your HCG gets to around 0, it means the embryo has fully passed, then you normally stop bleeding, you usually ovulate and get your period a few weeks later. So you bleed, stop bleeding for a few weeks, then new bleed is your period.

My experience will be different to yours. I had an etopic pregnancy last winter, started bleeding at 6 weeks pregnant, I bled for 12 long weeks. Exactly what you say I felt, that I couldn't move forward because my body wouldn't let me the pain and the bleeding for so long.

It's hard but you will get there.

Sorry for your loss.
My period started 26 days after my miscarriage and everything went back to “normal”. I would think it might be your period.

Hi @Chattygirl22

Sorry to hear about what you are going through. I can relate as I bled every day for 8 weeks after taking the first medical management for a MMC. (Then had a second dose for retained tissue which failed and an MVA).

Have you had a negative pregnancy test? I had my negative test at 8 weeks, the bleeding stopped, and then 1 week later my period started. Pretty sure I didn’t ovulate that month though. I wasn’t sure at the time if it was a period as it was only spotting. But it lasted a week, I ovulated 2 weeks after it started and my next period was 28 days later than this one so with hindsight it probably was. So it would seem possible it’s your period.

Hope you can get some closure soon and move on x
