Possible Ectopic but Dismissed as Miscarriage - HELP please

I had bleeding over the weekend and faint positives on pregnancy tests that got darker thereafter. Went for a scan and nothing found anywhere. Bloods drawn and progesterone was low at 0.4 and hcg 22.5. My lining is only 1.8mm so nothing can implant in my womb.

They dismissed me as a miscarriage but the positive came AFTER the bleeding and hcg is continuing to rise on my urine strips post-scan and tests.

They said they'd call me in 2 weeks but I don't want to wait that long and risk rupture. I'm going to go private next week for blood tests again and if hcg is still rising I'll go back to EPU and request another scan. I'm absolutely terrified.

Has anyone been through this and successfully caught the ectopic before it's too late? I'm so angry with the nhs for dismissing me so quickly. They said the bleeding means miscarriage and my hcg will fall but it's not falling.

I eas told HCG over 3000 to see anything on a scan.
So, doubling every 2 days:
0)22 2)44 4)88 6)176 8)352 10) 704 12)

Sorry,
12) 1408 14) 2816

With day followed by ) followed by estimated HCG.

So, a 2 week wait seems to be the sensible course of action.
I was well over 10,000 when close to rupture with an ectopic.

Of course if you get any further signs of an ectopic pregnancy, or become very ill, it's always worth going back sooner. But right now, I'd sit tight and wait.

With such a low HCG an ectopic isn’t likely to rupture, the embryo would be almost microscopically tiny. It shouldn’t be too dangerous to wait and check again. The test strips aren’t accurate enough to help work things out really but a blood test might give more information.

What did they say when you told them you were worried about an ectopic?

My ectopic ruptured at HCG 243. Yours really is very low.

Once you're on the ectopic watch list, you get given blood tests every 48 hours. I had blood tests taken at both the EPU and A&E as I tried to navigate the system at first. So another option for you could be to go back to A&E at the 48 hour mark and explain that you're frighted about a possible ectopic and would like another blood tests, I would think they would give it to you. Then, if it's going up, they should put you back through to the EPU, and if it's going down you'll know they were right after all.

Or maybe I'm wrong and A&E wouldn't want to do that these days, that was pre covid for me. If you're thinking about paying for a private one anyway and the uncertainty is doing your head in, I would go at the 48 hour mark rather than leaving it a week.

When I had an suspected ectopic I was allowed home because they couldn’t see anything on the scan, but I had to have bloods done every 48 hours so they could be sure it was going down not up. I spent three weeks going back and forth to the hospital because they were so concerned.

Thank you for your replies, when I spoke to them they did say they can't rule out ectopic at this stage so I'm confused as to why they wouldn't do a second set of bloods later on.

Luckily I just called bupa who covers me through work and they cover ectopic pregnancy and early pregnancy concerns. They found me a specialist at Portland Hospital who can see me first thing on Monday. Since my hormone levels are low I should be okay to wait until then.

Very grateful to be covered as I think I'd drive myself crazy waiting 2 weeks for a phone call and then waiting again for an appointment. I'm so worried about waiting too long when a potential rupture could be prevented.

I've had 2 ectopics both ruptured....blood draws can't diagnose an ectopic.

fleur89 · 01/06/2023 14:46

So sorry to hear that @febrezeme

Did they monitor you before they ruptured or was it that the rupturing symptoms were the first sign something was wrong?

I'm hoping if I get regular tests and scans they'll be able to diagnose and treat before it's too late

The first one I was under the miscarriage clinic anyway and I went in for an early scan just before 6 weeks and they couldn't see anything but my hcg was over 5000 - about 12 hours later they found the heartbeat in my tube and I ruptured at home about 3 days later

Second one I felt one sharp sided pain - I knew something wasn't right and managed to get scanned again - again heartbeat - hcg over 10000 - ruptured whilst waiting for surgery

fleur89 · 04/06/2023 10:15

@febrezeme awww bless you! I'm so sorry that you had to go through that.

My test lines are getting darker but very slowly so I'm proceeding with my appointment with a specialist tomorrow morning. My lining is too thin to sustain a pregnancy in my womb so it must be growing slowly elsewhere 😞

Please help?! I can’t find a single post to relate to…
2 weeks ago I found out I was miscarrying again for the 3rd consecutive time - very early on (4.5wks roughly)
24/09 HCG - 111
26/09 HCG 45.1
I was then told I will miscarry and so I bled the following day in what seemed like a normal full period.
I was advised to take a test 2 weeks later to ensure this was negative, however its positive?!
Another blood test taken 09/10 and HCG is now at 150…
Please can anyone relate to this and advise what is going on? Why has my hcg risen after 2 weeks? This is not a new pregnancy either as I’ve not had sx since I’ve miscarried! EPAU have no idea what’s going on and have contacted my gynaecologist and I have to wait for contact, but I feel sick with nerves!
