MMC - bleeding stalled?

I wonder if anyone has had a similar experience, just trying to understand what my body is up to?

I went for a private scan today, should have been 8w3d but measured 5w6d with no heartbeat - I am totally confident of my dates and had a positive pregnancy test a whole month ago so there's no way I just conceived later than I thought - so missed miscarriage unfortunately. It's my second pregnancy but first MC.

I spotted a tiny amount on and off from 4 weeks onwards and had zero pregnancy symptoms, hence booking the private scan to check what was going on. But on Wednesday this week, I started bleeding properly, a moderate period flow I'd say with some clots, not much on pads but a fair amount on wiping after loo trips. This continued through Thursday, then Thursday night I had waves of cramps and bleeding increased slightly. Then it all died down, bit more bleeding yesterday but then nothing at all since. Obviously, the baby and gestational sac are still in there as confirmed by the scan. So was my body trying to miscarry but didn't manage to? So confused as to why I bled for three days with cramps then nothing since, and baby is still there.

I have a scan with EPU booked for Monday afternoon now as they won't accept the results of private scans. After that I guess one more scan a week later to confirm, then some form of management.

Did anyone else have this sort of stalled progress, bleeding but not the full miscarriage, with the bleeding completely stopping for a while?

Horrendous really.

Well, an update already - about an hour or two after I posted the above, the bleeding started again, ramped up quickly and the miscarriage properly happened. So at least it's over now. Should I still go to my scan at the EPU?

I’m so sorry to hear this. The exact same thing happened to me last week, it’s the worse feeling ever. I spoke to my nurse at the EPU and they told me to go to my scan just to confirm that everything has passed naturally or not.
It’s such a rubbish time 🤍

Thank you and sorry to hear you have gone through this too. It really is awful. I don't feel like I have properly processed it yet. I will still go along to the scan, I definitely want to check everything has passed.

I know exactly how you feel. I still can’t quite believe it’s happening to me as well. It’s a weird feeling, I know it’s happened I just need the professional to tell me it’s all over now to. I hope your scan goes as best as it can and they tell you that you’ve passed everything. Take care and look after yourself x
