Medical miscarriage - empty sac

Hi everyone,

I recently found out I had a missed miscarriage, meaning i had an empty sac and no foetal pole or yolk sac at around 10 weeks.

I have had to go down the medicated miscarriage route, meaning I finished the 2nd pills on Sunday afternoon.

I had all the expected symptoms of cramping, heavy bleeding etc but i don’t feel like i have passed any significant tissue.

I’m 3 days since taking the medication and I have been suffering from excrutiating pains in my stomach, it feels like a pressure in my lower abdomen and almost feels like my stomach is filled with acid. My bleeding has since almost stopped and I feel as though I’m yet to pass the empty sac. Is this what is causing me the pain/pressure and would you get medical attention for this? I have been trying to manage with painkillers (codeine, ibuprofen, paracetamol etc) and nothing seems to help apart from them upsetting my stomach more.

Thanks in advance!

My first miscarriage was the same as yours. My medical management failed and ended up with a D&C. If you're unsure then call the early pregnancy unit and ask for a scan.

I’m so sorry you had to go through this too! Did you have any symptoms letting you know it had failed or was it just from having the scan that confirmed it?

I had to take a pregnancy test three weeks after the day I had inserted the tablets. It was positive. So I went for a scan and it showed the sac happily still there, so god knows what crap I passed. I've since had another miscarriage sadly and opted for surgical management straight away. No way was I going through that again.

Hi op, I'm sorry this has happened to you.

When I had a missed miscarriage I knew I'd passed the gestational sack because I heard it plop in to the toilet as I was going for a wee after I'd been cramping and bleeding on the sofa. I'd been cramping and bleeding intermittently for a few days beforehand. So I don't know if your medical management has failed but I did have a clear sign that my similar miscarriage had completed.

I phoned the hospital and they kindly brought me in for an earlier scan than planned to check it was all done. They were very obliging actually, so if you're feeling worried I would call the ward that is looking after you.

I hope it's all over soon 💐
