HCG still high 6 weeks after miscarriage, anyone had the same?

I had a missed miscarriage 6 weeks ago (I was almost 12 weeks but baby stopped growing at 7.5 weeks), which happened naturally at home (it happened before I could tell EPAC what I wanted to do!)

I have been testing rather obsessively, like every other day, since it happened and I was still getting positive tests, so I went back to the hospital at 4 weeks and they scanned me. They couldn't find any retained products or anything that looked wrong so sent me home and advised to call them again in 10 days, which I did with tests still positive... I had a blood test done today and my hcg was 75, so not really high but also not ideal, so I'm going to have another scan on Monday (my birthday!) to double check everything again...

I just wondered if anyone here has been through a similar thing where the hcg took a really long time to leave their body?! I cam feel the "more fertile 3 months" window slipping away and i feel quite stressed about it all, just want to be back to normal so much! I will be turning 36 so thats adding an extra layer of pressure on to me as well. It was my first pregnancy.

This happened to me. It took such a long time and my bleeding carried on for a very long time. I then had a very heavy period with clots and I think a bit of retained product which hadn't been seen on a scan.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I remember feeling the same about the 3 month fertile time and it just felt like my body was letting me down again

I just wanted to update this in case others have also gone through the same thing. I had a bleed start a few days after I wrote the message (last for 5 days, longer than my normal periods) and another blood test showing a drop to 42 (so 75 to 42 in 3 days). But, I'm still getting positive tests. And now almost 9 weeks after the miscarriage I still have an hcg of 36!! 2.5 weeks to drop 6 points!

I'm getting really frustrated and annoyed at my body that its taking so long to just leave so I can start again. I felt like I ovulated as well, but obviously didn't, so I'm just really fed up right now. Really hope this doesn't go on for too much longer. Although I feel like I'm going to be in this state forever.

that is frustrating OP
I was pregnant again when this happened to me but it was another mc unfortunately
I had months of uncertainty with it and doctors saying it’s fine
the downtrending hcg indicates it’s just going down really slowly I guess
if you’ve had further bleeding or cramps I’d go back for another scan to double check that no tissue is there

@bleuman thank you for your reply - I had another test in Thursday and it was 29 so because its going down and the scan didn't show anything left, its just about waiting for it to clear. I just can't believe it taken so long to leave my system, at the rate its going down I will probably be at 12 weeks! I guess my body really likes the hcg... I hope everything is ok with you now x
