Ectopic would hcg levels rise like this?

I tested positive a week today very faint and 5 days before my period was due.
The day after I tested positive Friday last week I started to bleed like a period for 3 days, then I carried on testing positive on a pregnancy test so had bloods done Monday this week my HCG was 37 and Progesterone 6.9. Dr said he thought it was a chemical pregnancy.
Had repeat bloods done yesterday (48hrs after the first lot) and my HCG has in fact risen to 138.
I'm now being referred for a scan and more HCG bloods on Tuesday next week.

I'm a mess and don't know what to think.
I was so sure it was a chemical pregnancy last weekend now I don't know what's going on.

My Dr said I could be very early in pregnancy and the bleed was implantation but I didn't think you could get a positive hcg test until after implantation? I tested positive the day before I bled.
He said it could be that I was pregnant with twins but now there is only one.
Or it could be ectopic.

Can anyone share their knowledge or experience please on what you think may be going on, do my HCG levels indicate a normal rise if I was pregnant? I would be 5 weeks.

I have had an ectopic pregnancy my hcg levels also went up as they would with a standard pregnancy and I had bleeding for 2/3 days although the bleeding was darker than a normal period.
I knew something was wrong when my heart rate went to 180 and had pains in my left shoulder, the bleeding started again but was more purplish (went to hospital who said I had anxiety- it wasn’t 🙄).
I wouldn’t worry too much unless you start getting other symptoms of an ectopic.
Try to relax, bleeding can be normal for some during pregnancy

I've had 2 ectopic pregnancies and each time my HCG rose but only by a sub-optimal amount. For instance, on one test it went from around 60 to around 90 in 48 hours. Generally the HCG can't double as the pregnancy isn't able to develop properly. I obvious can't fully comment on your situation but the HCG rise does sound promising. Might be worth getting an early scan at 6 weeks.as you'll be able to see if the pregnancy is in the right place. Good luck.

Mine crashed from 2000 to around 1000 then back up to 1500 and 2300 before it was treated with an injection. So it can definitely double.

I’m sorry this is happening.

Did your doctor mention your progesterone level? It’s quite low and typically under 10 at this stage would indicate some issue with the pregnancy which could either be ectopic, miscarriage or threatened miscarriage.

Update:
Scan today showed a live thriving pregnancy with a heart beat in my fallopian tube. I am beyond devastated and have to go in for surgery in the next few hours.

I hope everything goes ok for you and atleast you managed to find out before any lasting damage for you.
not that that seems like much of a silver lining now I’m sure
take care x
