Recurrent miscarriage after c section

Did anyone have any issues with pregnancy after c section? I can’t get it out of my head that my last 2x MMC was due to my c section .

Have you had any tests done? I wouldn’t think there was a link. I’ve had 3 csections and currently pregnant with my 4th baby and no losses. My SIL has had 4 csections and no losses. Obviously only anecdotal but I would be surprised if there’s a link there.

No c-section here but also 2 losses ttc#2. I had an episiotomy and forceps delivery in theatre and have since had a chemical and missed miscarriage

HappyHolidays22 · 08/02/2023 00:43

I had the same worry when we struggled ttc#2. We also had a miscarriage post section and I did wonder…. But - I know this sounds really cliche - the minute I did stop worrying about ttc we were finally pregnant again. Try not to overthink or worry xx

I had only two pregnancies in 6 yrs after my C-section . Both were suspected ectopics. One managed with drugs, the second, surgery where they did remove adhesions. I conceived successfully two months later using my 6th round of clomid.
I had a very quick emergency section so my view is that led to my secondary infertility.
I would speak to your dr. If you are unlucky enough to to have a 3rd mc you can often access testing iirc.

I had an easy pregnancy with my first, followed by emcs.

That was followed by 2 losses but it would never have occurred to me it's because of the csection.

Turns out I had undiagnosed thyroid issues.

Now 22 weeks and counting.

I'm sorry for your losses but I'm not sure there's a link here. Have you spoken to GP?

Rtmhwales · 08/02/2023 01:33

How old are you and your partner?

I've had 3 miscarriages following a normal birth without any major complications. It sometimes just happens. I'm not sure why the C section would be the issue though.

Lily0719 · 08/02/2023 05:00

Yes I have the same, do you have an isthmocele / c section niche? They are quite common after c sections, but not many doctors know about them so they go undiagnosed. You have to have surgery to fix them, so maybe worth looking into. They can be diagnosed by an ultrasound.

isthistheendtakeabreath · 08/02/2023 05:39

Yes. 5 miscarriages here and 2 ruptured ectopics- lost both tubes and nearly died twice - ectopics were definitely caused by my c section as surgeon said adhesions and scar tissue from the section had destroyed my tubes and everything stuck together in there: had to do a lot of IVF to get pregnant again

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies. Just to let you know I’m 33 , and even though I had 2x recurrent miscarriages (you need 3) the doctor has referred me to see the recurrent miscarriage specialist to do tests as I had a chemical pregnancy before I had my son.

@4thonthe4th so glad to hear that. Ive had an elective c section due to my boy being breech and would opt to do again in the future. I wish I could have 3 kids in total, but here’s me thinking way ahead into the future when I can’t even stay pregnant with my second!

@Ttcafterloss so sorry to read this, keeping my fingers crossed for you

@HappyHolidays22 i Know, can’t stop worrying and overthinking!! Glad you got there In the end x

@GrimDamnFanjo so sorry to hear, I’m glad you have your rainbow baby now

@knobheadinlaws so sorry to hear about your loss but great that they found the issue and now you’re 22 weeks! Yes I’m being referred to the recurrent miscarriage specialist but it’s been 3 months and still waiting. My gp did basic blood tests ; thyroid, progesterone, coeliac disease , folic , vitamin d, all came back fine except my vitamin d was a bit low so I’m taking supplements daily.

@Rtmhwales I’m 33. I read online there are risks with future pregnancies if you have a c section. Just thinking of All the possibilities in my head.. it’s not doing me any good I know

@Lily0719 - no I haven’t heard of that, I will google it. When the sonographer scanned me internally she said my c section scar looked fine. But that was a quick check to see if they could confirm I had a complete miscarriage. She quickly checked my ovaries and scar , It wasn’t a full investigation

@isthistheendtakeabreath that is so awful I can’t imagine the pain. You said you had to do a lot of ivf to get pregnant again, I hope it worked out in the end for you?
