Ovulation after pregnancy loss

Hi everyone
I sadly had a mc which started with bleeding on 1st Jan and I believe I miscarried completely on 2nd Jan this year. It was confirmed as a complete miscarriage on 4th Jan with a scan. I bled until Saturday 7th and I have been taking hcg tests everyday which are getting lighter - as of today, they are basically squinters. I was 6weeks 2 days and things happened quickly and with little pain.
I'd like to try again ASAP as my husband works away and it's difficult to plan these things.
I have a very regular cycle - usually 27 or 28 days but I've not really tracked ovulation before so not sure when I typically ovulate - I guess probably around day 13 but not sure.
I am wondering if people can share when they ovulated after their mc? I've become confused by reading online as some have said 2 weeks later but was this 2 weeks after bleeding started or 2 weeks after bleeding stopped?
Or am I unlikely to ovulate until 2 weeks after HCG has fully gone? I am getting myself confused. I can only see ranges online but not sure if the range is smaller for your next period if the mc was early.
I'm going to track BBT and use OPKs too but I'm just interested in others experiences. Could this happen as early as this Sunday as this was 2 weeks from the start of the MC?
Also, I already have one ds who is 18 months and I'm still breastfeeding. No idea if this has any bearing on things but it was a straight forward pregnancy and birth with him.
Thanks so much in advance!

@Travellingislife amazing!!! How lovely is it seeing that heartbeat!!!

i'm doing ok - around 8ish weeks now :) i'm not getting an early scan this time sbut have my 12 week in a month so all will soon be reveealed!! How are you feeling ??? I'm feeling very meh but generally muchbbetter than i hear a lot of people on here so counting my lucky stars 🤣 xxx

i have booking in on Tues !!!

OhGodIAmTired · 15/03/2023 10:00

@Travellingislife - I'm so happy for you to have had that early scan and seen a heartbeat.

I've had 3 NHS scans now and I think I'm finally less anxious. 12 weeks tomorrow. Still normal concerns about development and things not going to plan, but I think that's just my personality now lol. With my first I couldn't relax until he was in my arms. For now I am able to 'enjoy' the pregnancy...

However I keep thinking about the other pregnancy, i'd be 20 weeks and halfway there. I feel so conflicted, like i'm excited for this baby but guilty or still grieving the other.

I feel really bonded to this new baby though, which has surprised me as I felt so guarded and anxious for so long. And I didn't connect much with my first baby when pregnant. This time it feels quite real and I'm very protective already.

@LMM91x I'm glad you're doing well too!

AnotherEllie · 15/03/2023 12:25

@Travellingislife thats brilliant!

I didn't get an early scan in the end but have my 12 week scan in under 2 weeks - can't believe it has come around so quickly!

My symptoms are different this time. Sickness seems to subside when I eat (couldn't really eat much at all last time) but then comes back quickly after eating. So feel like I'm eating constantly but then I'm not sure if it's worth it as I only feel relief for a short time! My sense of smell has disappeared with a cold this week - which is probably a good thing as certain smells set me off really badly with my DS.

I know HCG peaks around 10 weeks though so hoping it'll ease off in the next 4 weeks - which will be good timing as I have quite a few plans from May onwards!

Super tired but my DS still doesn't sleep through the night - so that isn't helping. Luckily can WFH most days which has been great.

@LMM91x It’s amazing seeing the heartbeat, it made me less anxious for a moment at least 😅 Hopefully the 4 weeks will fly past for you!
I’m feeling quite tired in the evenings and I wake up around 4am and can’t go back to sleep. I’m also feeling a bit nauseous but eating does help even though I don’t feel like it,so I’m constantly snacking too @AnotherEllie
It’ll be nice when you get the first trimester “out of the way” and hopefully you’ll feel better too then. My son is not sleeping through most nights either so I sympathise with you, luckily I work from home too.
@OhGodIAmTired 12 weeks already! Aw that is lovely you’re bonding with this baby, it’s how it should be! I know it’s easy to be guarded when you’ve had a loss. Pregnancy is a lot of worrying but we just have to try our best and enjoy it, we will be as upset if something goes wrong whether we worry or not ( I’m trying to convince myself of this 😅)

OhGodIAmTired · 15/03/2023 15:26

@Travellingislife you are so right. Anxiety won't positively or negatively influence what happens. Worrying doesn't do any good. I find letting go of control hard though, but am learning.

@AnotherEllie I have had nonstop nausea since about 7 weeks now, which I've found reassuring (as with my losses I didn't feel sick - although I know that's not the case for everyone) BUT also really hard and am in bed every night by 8.30pm!! I'm also eating constantly, if I don't eat every 2hrs I just throw up. So, solidarity!

AnotherEllie · 15/03/2023 16:35

@OhGodIAmTired my last pregnancy was like that! I'm glad it's not just me eating constantly. I also want to eat really specific things so I need to shop constantly but I find the supermarket makes me feel queasy too so I can't win!

It is reassuring in a way though as I had virtually no nausea with the loss so hopefully it's a sign everything is okay!

I'm also in bed at 8.30! And sometimes have a lunchtime nap and a post nursery drop off nap! 😅

Bring on trimester 2 - though I think my sickness didn't end properly for quite some time with DS.

@LMM91x hope the booking goes well!

It's so nice to hear positive updates after a horrible start to the year!

Glad to hear all of your pregnancies are going well!

I know I spoke about it a bit on here, as I was having no periods post D&C, but I saw a specialist today and I have uterine scarring (asherman’s syndrome) from the D&C so my lining is unable to grow and I currently can’t conceive. I’m so so glad I saw him though as I’m having another operation to remove the scarring in a month and hopefully 6 weeks after that can TTC. I just wanted to update everyone and also make people aware this is an issue if you ever hear of anyone having it, as it’s quite rare (5% D&Cs) but not really anything the NHS does anything about.

LAURAPAX · 16/03/2023 18:44

thanks @Hopefulhoney6 for updating on your experience and next steps and so sorry you’ve had to go through this as well. I am glad you have been seen quickly and have a plan in place. I’m also having an operation soon as I’ve been diagnosed with gallstones and need to have my gallbladder removed : ( I hope it doesn’t set me back trying to TTC. I think I got gallstones from being pregnant twice in the last 6 months. Wouldn’t mind if I had a successful pregnancy but it feels even more crap considering that’s not the case. God I hope we have some more luck soon xxx

LMM91x · 16/03/2023 18:57

Oh @Hopefulhoney6 i'm sorry to read your update - but glad they are getting you seen too and you can start trying again and sending lots of baby dust❤️

you too @LAURAPAX - gallstones must be so painful :(

Travellingislife · 16/03/2023 19:54

@Hopefulhoney6 I’m sorry to hear this, you were right all along that something wasn’t right. I’m glad you’ve got an answer and you’ll get it sorted, that must be a relief.

@LAURAPAX oh no, that sounds rubbish, hopefully you’ll feel better once the op is done.

Hopefulhoney6 · 18/03/2023 15:42

Thank you @Travellingislife @LAURAPAX and @LMM91x - I think pushing when you know something isn’t right is definitely the way forward.

So sorry about the gallstones @LAURAPAX . My mum had an operation to remove them several years ago and it was a great recovery so I hope it’s the same for you! And we can both be back to trying again ❤️

AnotherEllie · 25/03/2023 09:05

@Hopefulhoney6 hopefully all goes well for you with that! And good you have managed to find out what was happening as the uncertainty is really hard.

@LAURAPAX hope your operation goes well too 💕

On a separate note, I have my 12 week scan on Tuesday. I'm not feeling as sick which is making me anxious but I'm guessing it's just things starting to calm down as I get towards the end of first trimester. I'm relieved the sickness hasn't been so bad but equally it is more stressful after the loss.

I had a horrible dream in which the person scanning me couldn't get a clear image - which I'm sure stems from nerves. And my husband was late for the scan - so I was also cross at him, haha!

I'm sure I will feel better after Tuesday - and I'm glad it's a morning appointment as I would be pacing around all day otherwise!

Will let you know how it goes.

LMM91x · 25/03/2023 09:42

Omg @AnotherEllie the anxiety is high over here too. I'm trying to focus one day at a time and hope for the best. Not much else we can do eh❤️ I still have 3 weeks until scan - i'll be 12+5 which is a little annoying!

really hope it goes well on Tuesday for you , try to relax this weekend and have something yummy to eat❤️ xxx

AnotherEllie · 28/03/2023 15:17

All fine at my 12 week scan! Definitely anxious going in but feel better now.

Baby was measuring 12 weeks 2 - even though I ovulated 5-7 days later than usual so I thought it might show smaller - I thought it would be more like 12 weeks on Friday. But I suppose that is likely a good thing! Also my DS was big too so not unusual for me.

Will be interested to see when baby eventually comes! Definitely not an exact science :)

OhGodIAmTired · 28/03/2023 15:20

@AnotherEllie I'm so happy to hear this - congratulations. Was actually thinking of you today!

@LMM91x I hope your wait is going ok, I find it all so agonising!

@LAURAPAX I really hope your op is ok, gallstones sounds horrible and the last thing you need right now.

LMM91x · 28/03/2023 16:32

@OhGodIAmTired agonising is the word..... its horrendous!!! I feel like I can't arrange anything until after my scan, which is still 2 weeks away and at 12+5! Gahhhhh

yay @AnotherEllie so so so happy for you 🥰 do you feel amazing now?! 🤣🤣

Travellingislife · 28/03/2023 16:38

@AnotherEllie So pleased your scan went well! I was sure of my ovulation dates and my son was born in week 43, they wanted to induce me as they said he was late but I knew he wasn’t and that he would come when he was ready, and he did 😊 It’s definitely not an exact science.
I had an 8 week scan today and it looked good thank goodness! I’be finally dared to book my booking in appointment so I’m waiting for that and I’ll book a harmony test in about 3 weeks time as well because of my age.
I’m feeling very nauseous from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep, anyone got any tips to stop the morning sickness?? I’m also exhausted but I’m trying to embrace it all.
Hope you’re all feeling OK!

OhGodIAmTired · 28/03/2023 17:08

@Travellingislife that's so great about your 8 week scan and nausea too, really hope you're ok with it all.

I've had horrendous nausea (as I did with my son) but thrown up less this time. I know every pregnancy is different but I think I'm taking better quality supplements this time has helped. Apparently the iron used in Pregnacare can make nausea so much worse (I know I've always been sensitive to iron supplements, even when not pregnant). The ones I'm on are more gentle.

My other strategies are pretty basic: bed at 8pm every night, eating every 2hrs, staying hydrated and peppermint sweets. Still feel awful but for me the nausea stage lasts for the first two trimesters, and I still feel v lucky to have got 'this far' with pregnancy.

Don't get me wrong though, I've found the constant nausea pretty hard at times. If I'm not rested and well fed it so much worse, I've had to get a few 3am snacks to stop myself vomiting!

AnotherEllie · 28/03/2023 17:23

@Travellingislife thank you! And glad the scan went well for you too.

@LMM91x I know - I was counting down the days until the scan. A big relief but still a bit more hesitant to tell people! It's so strange but the time has also gone so quickly! I'm guessing your baby might be an October baby too? It almost doesn't feel real still. Baby was moving around loads - making their presence known!

Really feel everyone's pain on the nausea - mine was much worse with my DS (so know how debilitating it is) but still feeling queasy often now. Great tips from @OhGodIAmTired. I stopped my pregnancy multi vits too and I'm feeling a bit better but not sure if related - just taking Vitamin D and Folic Acid at the mo.

Eating every 2 hours is the only thing that has worked for me too. I find sugary foods makes it worse. I have found having a lot of choice at home helpful - as eating what I fancy really helps... But it changes every day. So far I've fancied the most random combination of food - and often not very healthy. Completely off red meat, which happened last time too. I find I don't like to cook - much more inclined to eat if someone else cooks. Have always found brown toast with butter and salt palatable, as well as jacket potatoes.

I've found ice cold drinks really helpful too.

It generally does seem to be whatever you feel you can manage on the day though - at least for me it is!

@OhGodIAmTired @AnotherEllie
Thank you, I stop the preg scare tablets I’ve been taking to see if it’ll help. I’ve definitely got a craving for unhealthy food; salty, carby and fatty 😏 I’ve tried strong mints now and it seems to work for a little while!
I’m falling asleep at 8pm in the sofa haha but struggle with insomnia in the early hours.

Hope it's OK to join this thread, it's so nice to see eveylryones positive stories.

I had a MMC fairly recently. I had had a 6 week early scan privately and everything was fine and seen the heartbeat, went for the 8 week scan to find out baby had stopped growing at 7 weeks 3 days and there was no heartbeat. As I hadn't passed naturally I went into hospital on the 22nd as a day patient to have the tablets and everything seemed to go OK and passed fairly quickly.

I stopped bleeding on Monday however still getting the faintest line on pregnancy tests. Is it too early to start tracking LH? I started tracking after bleeding and I had a high reading but not sure if this is still hormone levels from the pregnancy?

Paperboats · 06/04/2023 15:09

@Jb2189 I'm so sorry to hear about your experience, I hope you are doing ok?

Taking what's happened/is happening to me (I had a presumed complete miscarriage almost 9 weeks ago and I STILL have HCG in my system, blood test confirmed, its just not going away), I have been doing pregnancy and LH tests pretty much every or every other day since about 1 week after it happened, and have only ever had positive LH tests as they are picking up on the HCG, so any tests you do while you are still getting a positive HCG test could likely be inaccurate as they pick up the HCG as well. But that's just from my experience!

AnotherEllie · 06/04/2023 15:19

@Jb2189 I'm so sorry to hear about your experience and hope you are okay 💞

LH and HCG are picked up similarly so a surge could be from the remaining HCG in your body.

Personally, I was picking up HCG for about 2 weeks then I ovulated around day 20. I started tracking LH from around day 10 I believe - my LH surge was very obvious (e.g. nothing at all for a week, then clear lines from day 18/19). I passed everything naturally and think everything happened relatively quickly for me - I know for others things took longer to adjust. I think the minimum amount of time to ovulate after loss is around 14 days. If I did it again, I would probably do the same - as I was keen to not miss ovulation. It depends on whether you are keen to TTC again or whether you might like to wait a cycle to see where you are at.

I was advised to call the EPU if still getting a positive test 3 weeks after my scan. Did you receive any advice on that?

OP posts:
Jb2189 · 06/04/2023 15:39

Thank you both for responding, I don't know how to tag so will just reply in one lol.

I had a feeling it might be the hcg levels picking up in the lh tests but wasn't 100% sure. It is only a faint line I'm getting on the pregnancy and it's getting fainter every day so levels of that are reducing.

I only miscarried 2 weeks ago so not het in the 3 week bracket. The unit never said anything when they discharged me but she did say it looked as though I had passed everything. If I'm still testing positive next week I'll give them a call and see what they say.

We are wanting to TTC as soon as possible so was hoping I'd ovulate Spon so we can start trying again.
